puppy acting sick last night my poor guy was acting weird last night. first he acted like he had been stung cause he yelped then he ran around looking for a place to hide. I picked him up and checked him out and all seemed well. About an hour later he did the same thing again, still could find nothing wrong with him. he then just got kinda weak acting, not his usual biting jumpy self...he had ate good all day and normal potty. I gave him a lick of the nutrical as a precaution and a couple hours later he got a little spunk back. My husband put him in his crate for the night but I worried he would not be with us by morning. This morning he is back to his chipper self but his stool is a little soft and boy is it foul smelling. I searched the kitchen and frontroom looking for anything that might have caused him harm but could find nothing. My plants are up high so he couldn't chew them. I am stumped but will watch him for any further signs of sickness. I think this pup is gonna scare me, my other was like 4 months old when I got her and her death has left me filled with guilt so I am worried that I am gonna lose this little one as well. |
If you were concerned that she wasn't going to make it through the night - then I would definitely take her to a Vet. I will tell you that when Lucy got gas as a puppy; she ran around like that; flopped over trying to get comfortable; and then ran and hid. Her vet listened to her stomach and said she had a lot of gas. He said that sometimes puppies do that when they have gas because it scares them and they try to run away from it. Which is what Lucy did. My son jokes now that we had to take her to the Vet because she wasn't smart enough to fart. But I don't want to make light of your situation. Lucy did not have diarrhea or foul smelling stool. If you have a young pup with stomach pain, diarrhea, and foul smelling waste; it wouldn't take me too long to get him to a Vet. |
Hope your pup feels better soon. I know how stressful it can be when they are sick. |
Actually if you knew me as a person you would understand that my thinking he wouldn't make it thru the night is how I see the world, I worry about everything and have always seen the dark side of things instead of the everything is gonna be fine. Since you brought up gas pains it reminded me that while he was on the couch with my daughter she made the comment that the puppy farted. So perhaps the later yelp and behavior was due to that. I have however called the vet and they will see him at 3:00 today and I have bagged up a stool sample for them to test. I have sweep and mopped my floor looking for any trace of what he may have eaten to make him have diarrhea and can find nothing. As I told the vet his behavior has been normal today and his appetite good, just the loose stools. I did feed him a little chicken rice soup since I seen it on another thread but now it will be in the vets hands as to what we do next. |
I would say definitely take her to the Vet even if just to give you peace of mind. I hope your little one feels better soon! Keep us updated!! |
