Maggie's limping
 

Hi everyone. Unfortunately, I find myself in this section again.

Earlier today, Maggie and Max jumped off the couch to go bark at the door (go figure). I didn't notice at first, but found it strange she didn't immediately jump back on the couch. When I looked down she was limping around.

She is non-weight bearing on her right back leg. If she DOES put it down, it's just on her tippy toes/nails. If she does TRY to put weight on it, it's weak and comes out from under her. She is not whimpering, even while putting her leg and all the joints in it in through range of motion. Just can't weight bear. Oh, and when my physical therapist boyfriend (yes, we know not of dogs, but he was more comfortable checking it out than I was) put it through ranges of motion her knee popped a bit.. but no pain. She can move around pretty quick on her three good legs, but we're not letting her do that much.

I'm planning on taking her to the vet tomorrow, but we don't have one where we live right now.

What do you guys think? Pulled muscle? Luxating patella? Torn ligament?Just trying to get myself prepared for what I might hear tomorrow. We are very thankful she is not in pain, but still nervous about the possibility of surgery. I know a lot of you have got through similar situations.

Poor baby. It really good be anything. Same thing happened to my Max and after our vet visit it was nothing more than a pulled muscle. He limped for about a week. He didn't cry or whimper and also didn't put weight on his leg. She may have just landed wrong on her feet.

Don't speculate. Your vet can do x-rays to determine exactly what's going on. In the meantime I would keep her as still as possible. I kept Max on strict crate rest and he was on a muscle relaxer as well.

Something like this happen with Bailey -- but he is a lot larger pup. Poor guy couldn't walk!! The vet gave him a couple of shots an anti inflammatory and something for the pain . He said he bruised his foot and he was right as rain in a few days. I hope it is as simple as that for your little one.

Hopefully she just strained her leg and with some rest and a vet visit will be fine.

Doctor said it is most likely only a bruised or slightly fractured toe. Put her on rimadyl and will see how it goes this week. SO glad I didn't leave there with recommendations for surgery or something!

Glad to hear it's nothing serious. Sometimes they just land the wrong way. I worry about Zach for that reason because he is a nut and doesn't jump off things but flies through the air. Ah Yoirkies you can't live with them but I wouldn't want to live without one.

I strongly suggest that you find a way to keep her from jumping on and off of the furniture. Get a ramp or stairs and teach her to use them! This is the best way to avoid having an injury that will end up needing surgery!

I agree! I've had her for almost 6 years and she is the most stubborn (yet wonderful) doggie I have ever had. We've had stairs for the bed - refused. We now have an ottoman - will only use it when a treat is involved. Otherwise, wants nothing to do with it. It's so frustrating, but she just wants to do things her own way. Yorkies, I tell ya!

Hahah....so true. They do have minds of their own. :D

Happy is was not too serious an injury. As I got my Yorkies when they were adults, I had to teach them not to jump on and off the furniture. I did this by picking them up whenever I entered a room, and put them down right before i left the room. Eventually they learned to wait so I could help them, even the most difficult one, because she just likes the extra attention....
