High Liver enzyme levels? Teddy went to get his pre-op blood work done to get him neutered..the vet called and said his liver enzyme levels came out sky high and that we need to do further testing. He said we have to check for liver shunt, etc. My question is..wouldn't he had shown signs if he had liver shunt? He is 4 yrs old..also what causes high enzyme levels? Food? I feed him California Natural..what should i feed him until he gets his blood testing done this wk? |
You can continue with his normal diet this week. No, they don't always have symptoms if they have liver shunt or microvascular dysplasia. It could also be a nother liver issue. |
Any updates? |
Thanks...no no updates yet. He is going this week to have more blood tests done. |
Toxins can cause very high levels too... could he have gotten into anything? Any vaccines recently? |
Also infected teeth & gums can cause liver enzymes to go way off. |
Has Teddy ever had a bile acids test? One of the main reasons to get one done as a puppy is to give your vet a baseline to use in cases where liver enzymes are suddenly high. It can avoid the need for expensive and invasive tests later on. Has Teddy ever had bloodwork at all? If so, have his liver enzymes always been in the normal range? I do hope the first test on the list to be done is a bile acids test. |
did you ever find out what was up? |
