Thank you everyone for your support. I appreciate linz06 sharing her story with me. I will start crate rest asap. I just feel like I am being a mean mommy by sticking him in a crate all day. I know that I am really doing what is best for him though. I will keep everyone posted. Thanks again for all of your prayers and support. |

But...it is not mean...you are a good mom and doing your best! :) |
a few years back my yorkie zowi had an arched back. we took her to our beloved vet and radiographs showed her to her have a degenerative disk disease in her lower back. we had to do the strict crate rest for 2 weeks, and medications. it broke my heart too and made me feel like a bad mommy seeing those sad little eyes inside a crate when she has never ever been crated or caged in her entire life! but it is very important to do because the meds make them feel better so they become more active and it is only hurting them worse with all that activity. it was for her own good. surgery was also being discussed if the problem didnt get any better. thank goodness, it has been years with no reoccurence so far. we have it checked out every so often, the last time i had her checked was last august and she showed almost no signs of this and her dogtor said it was a very mild case that will most likely never need surgery. we have several dog stairs everywhere ( the kind you can get at walgreens for $10) so she doesnt have to jump on the furniture and im sure this helps. i will keep your little one in my prayers that this is a mild case and will heal with rest and meds. |
I would have to investigate further before having surgery on such a young dog, or any age dog for that matter, and get a second opinion from an Orthopedic specialist. JMHO. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...lasia-etc.html |
For second opinions about surgery, I always recommend Board Certified vets! For more information about Board Certification and to find vets in your area: American College of Veterinary Surgeons |

This is Exactly what my Chiropractor does to my pups and has brought several back from total back end paralysis. It is amazing and I Love not having to put them through surgery. It is also very successful for dogs who have had Failed surgeries. |
Ivd Our Yorkie was just diagnosed with IVD . He has lost use of both rear legs and the Vet wants us to try 8 weeks of crage rest. He has lost his uniary and bowel control. All this happened within a matter of hours from feeling fine to not being able to walk. The sooner it is diagnosed and treatment started the better the prognosis. Good Luck.. |
We have just begun the 8 week crate treatment for our little Bo. He is really hating the confinement and wondered if you might have any suggestion on keeping the barking, whining, and restlessness, to a minimum. Thanks for any help.. |
