Vomiting/Diarrhea - HELP I came home after work to find an apartment littered with piles of vomit and loose stools (not excessively watery...still is semi-solid form). I'm not sure of the timing of these events, since I was at work all day. Miles is acting perfectly normal and energetic, and seems to have an appetite. I have been home for a little over an hour now, and he hasn't vomited or had a stool since I've been here. The last time he got sick, it took a round of antibiotics to get him turned around. I have a call into my vet so hopefully we can get him on something soon. In the meantime, I'm a little worried. He's acting fine (but clearly something is wrong). I can't think of anything out of the ordinary he would have eaten. The vet performed tons of labs last summer when he was sick, and didn't find anything that would be a chronic illness. Can dogs get a type of "flu"? Silly question, but just at a loss here... |
I really don't know if dogs can get the flu like people. Maybe they have a canine flu? Did Miles eat any people food that didn't agree with him? It's best to have the vet take a look. Hope he's doing better!!!! |

Don't take a chance and brush it off as a regular case of the Flu. It really sounds worse than that. My boy had vomited all day and had diarrhea the next day. In just that time he was dehydrated and in lots of pain. If I had not nipped it in the butt, I would be regretting it right now. |
They can get all kinds of stomach upsets. The main thing you want to do is to make sure he is hydrated. You can check him by lifting his upper lip and touching his gums. They should be wet to touch. If they are dry and tacky to touch, then he is dehydrating and needs to be seen by the vet asap. Good luck! |

I would try some Canned Pumpkin (I use organic). Make sure it's not pumpkin pie mix, the only ingredient should be pumpkin. It helps settle their tummys and it helps with the runs. |
I'm still not sure what happened, but he never vomited again after I got home, and his stools were completely normal the following morning. Very odd! By the time my vet called me back, I felt like a fool because I had panicked over nothing, apparently! He's still absolutely fine today. Thanks for all the advice, though! :) |
Glad Miles is doing better. I think most would agree that one of the most serious problems a small dog can have is getting dehydrated. |

Please don't feel like a fool. You did not panic over nothing. You did the right thing by calling the vet!! Glad all is well! |
You are good mom. You took care of your baby! |

I wish some of the furbut mommies that have posted heartbreaking stories lately would be as good as a mommy as you!! |
You're no fool. People who don't panic when their babies are sick are the fools. Glad Miles is doing better. |
