Veruca devloped a histiocytoma? Veruca developed a little red bump on her upper lip and I took her to the vet. They biopsied the bump and came back with the diagnosis histiocytoma. They gave me a topical corticosteroid, Synotic, and told me to apply 1 drop 2-3times daily for 3-4 days and then the histiocytoma should regress within 3 weeks. Has anyone else had this problem with their yorkie? What triggers it? And even though I'm following their instructions - I'm nervous about putting the steroid on Veruca's lip because it contains DMSO and she licks it. Any thoughts? Thanks! :( |
Alfie had this on his foot, once the vet checked it he said not to do anything with it and it went away on its own!! |
I've heard of DMSO being given IV so I wouldn't worry too much if he ingests some of it. The DMSO actually drives the medicine into the skin where iit is absorbed, so be careful if you get any on your hands, as anything you touch before or afterwards could end up in your system.... |

thanks everyone for your replies. i haven't noticed any change in the histiocytoma yet, but supposedly it will ulcerate and go away in a few weeks. we'll have to wait and see. :clock: it definitelty bothers me more than it bothers veruca! |

Histiocytoma is shrinking! After 6 applications of steroid ointment, I asked an independent observer(my husband) and he thinks the histiocytoma is definitely shrinking! :D |
Abby, my 1 year old Yorkie just got diagnosed with a histiocytoma right next to her nose...scared me to death when I saw it, but was assured by my vet that watchful waiting is what needs to be done and that it is benign...If it gets bigger within the next month or if it seems to be bothering her, it can be removed, but even then I will keep an eye on it a few more weeks probably, so as to avoid anesthesia if at all possible. :animal-pa |
I'm so sorry your little baby scared you... Veruca's histiocytoma went away within 3 weeks with the steroid ointment. She didn't like me applying it, but it completely worked. Best of luck with your baby! |
