Upset tummy Bitsy is 11 weeks old, tonight she has had some loose stool. I think it's because I mixed a little wet food with her dry food (same brand). What can I do to help her?? |
Canned pumpkin helps - but just for the future - changes to their diet needs to be done gradually - preferrably within a 3-4 day period. |
you mean like for pies? How much should I give her? |
Make sure its pumpkin and not pumpkin pie filling - there's a difference. the pumpkin pie filling has cinammon and other spices that aren't good for the little guys. Just a tablespoon mixed in with his food should help bind him. Yogurt also works. |
I'll try that. Thank you! |
Hi Beth Just a quick note - if the loose stool doesnt clear up within a day after you try the pumpkin, Bitsy needs to go to the vet. At 11 weeks old she is very young and can dehydrate fast. Do you know how to check to make sure she is hydrated? The gums should be pink (not white) and they should be moist, not sticky or feel tacky. A little loose stool may seem like nothing, but these babies can go down hill quickly so you need to watch her very closely. If she does not like the pumpkin, you can try a little cooked sweet potato and that will add fiber to the diet as well. But really I'd be calling the vet if she is not over this very fast! Keep us posted. |
I will check her gums when I get home in the morning, working right now. I appreciate the feedback, I am really glad I found this site! Everyone is so nice and helpful. I think on my way home I will stop and get a sweet potatoe. Thanks again!! :) |
