Mya has diaherra ! Hello everyone ! I am new to this site and also a new mommy to my yorkie, Mya :) She is 16 weeks old. Unfortunately my first post isnt the best topic. Mya has diaherra. Today i switched her wet food. Her dry food is Blue Buffalo and her previous breeder gave her a healthy wet food (not sure of the name). Today i bought her DRY blue buffalo and WET blue buffalo (beef stew). She munched it all up. I know that the transition of foods should be done slowly yet since it was the same brand and only WET food i didnt think it would affect her. She did have loose stools before i fed this to her but now its diaherra :( Im not sure what the cause could be. Im very paranoid and want to make sure she is okay. Im not sure if this is urgent enough to take her to the vet right away. She is acting normal, drinking and eating. I have read about feeding her white rice which is suppose to help. So i will be sure to do that in the morning. Also i was thinking if i should just feed her DRY food for now and see if her stool hardens ??? I really appreciate any suggestions or comments. Thanks :) |
You can give her some canned pumpkin for diaherra. Wet food will give it to mine everytime. I would call the breeder and find out what brand wet food she was giving and how much. You may have gave her to much of the wet. I will use a spoon of wet and mix it with the dry sometimes but never just wet food. Does she have any mucus or blood in her stool? Sometimes you can bring a pup home and it will develop coccidia from stress. If it continues I would have her checked. Remember a puppy can do down fast from getting dehydrated so be very careful and don't let it go on to long. Congrats on your baby. I hope she feels better soon! |
canned pumpkin does work :) & when Bee has diaherra i feed her plain white rice & she almost always eats it & keeps it down. It is something that soothes her tummy & helps her feel better. so you could try that too. uhm, so I would reccomend trying that. But dont feed to much of it. make as much as you want, but only give her a cup, maybe two depending on how much she normally eats. & then save the rest. Other than that I wouold say call the vet & the breeder. |
Thanks for the responses ! Thank you ladies for all of the advice !:) I have fed her white rice twice today, small portions, yet still no change :( But maybe I need to wait a little bit more. I am going to get the canned pumpkin, with hopes of a change in her system. And if there is no change by tomorrow morning, we wil be going to the vet. I appreciate your help, thanks from me & mya :) |

If you know how to take her temp, do so. If her temp is below norm, norm is 101.2 and her tummy is growling/rumbling she may very well have enteritis, inflammation of the intestinal tract. However, dirreah can be indicative of other issues; she should be taken to the vet to be checked. |
Th last time she went potty, her stool had hardened. It was a bit wet and soft but nothing like before. So that seems to be a good sign. She isn't going as nearly as frequently. She hasn't changed her mood at all, she is acting normal, playing, eating, drinking & peeing. There is no mucus or blood in her stool. & she has been with me since Christmas Eve, so this is our third week together. Could coccidia still be an issue ?? I havent given her any type her puppy food. She has been eating white rice which now she isnt very fond of anymore. I am going to make the steamed, skinless chicken for her. I was worried about her getting dehydrated. I read about Pedialyte, the clear kind, for babies. I was considering purchasing some. But i am unsure of the process in which I should give it to her. How much do I give her ? & for how long ? I am still going to take her to the vet, just to make sure everything is fine. I am going to take a sample of her stool and have a fecal testing done. I appreciate your concern and advice :) |
I do not mean to scare you but be aware-- my first puppy I brought home was very sick with Giardia. She had terrible diarrhea. She died two days after I got her. Make sure the vet checks her for parasites please. |
