I dont know what is wrong with him...please help Hello, My dog is an 18 month old Biewer and weighs 7lbs. He is usually very happy and perky. This morning he was fine, I took him to the dog park like i usually do. He was running and playing as usual. When we came home he was acting weird. Following us around the house and starring at us. I was observing him when I noticed that he was wobbling when he was standing. I picked him up and he was very weak. I noticed that he was drooling an awful lot. He did not want to lay down and he insisted on standing up. I gave him some honey thinking his sugar level might have dropped from all that playing..but it did not help. I checked his temperature and it was normal. All he does is stand and stare off into space while his head is wobbling in a almost circular motion. When I call his name his ears move and he slightly glances at me and stares into space again. He also keeps squinting his eyes. My vet doesnt really know whats going on. They ran blood work but I have to wait for the results. Does anyone have any experience with this? Please help I am very worried. |
I have no idea, but will certainly keep him in my thoughts and prayers. Can you take him to an emergency vet for another opinion? |
It sounds like either a form of seizure or possibly a neck injury while at the park? Did your vet do any x-rays? |
I think you will have a better idea when the bloodwork comes back untill then I will keep him in my prayers |
He is a lot more stable now. But i am extremely worried. :( Could these be signs of liver shunt? |
The Dr doesnt think its a seizure. :( no neck injury |

Do you have the health history of your dog or any kind of health gurantee from your breeder? Have you called your breeder? |

The breeder claims that his parents have no health history. He had a year guarantee, but that already expired. |

I will ask my vet to perform this. He said to leave him there and come back in 4 hours, he is under observation. Do you know if this test is quick? Do you by any chance know how much they run? |

When I had BA's done on mine it was $99.00 each and it took a few days to get the results if I remember corectly. |
Could he have eaten any wild berries at the park? We have red berries that grow here in the winter that the birds just love because it makes them high! I've seen the cats that run wild eat them as well, and they go into such a trance like state. These red berries grow on low bushes and fall all over the area which can blow long distances. They are small, round and smooth. Some mushrooms have the same effect, and others can make them very, very sick. Lots of things grown this time of year are toxic. I hope your boy recovers from whatever it is without complications poor guy. :( |
Did the vet run a liver profile? |
I\'m so sorry, This happened to someone else on YT a few weeks ago. She took hers to a few different Vets. They all determined something different...Vestibular, Encephalitis, Valley Fever, GME....until they read the other records and decided it was probably Vestibular. She never figured out was was wrong. I hope your Vet is really good. It sounds neurological. I hope you get a good answer. |
