Bailey has a tummy ache Bailey has for the last 2 days getting up at night with dirrhea and dry heaves with a tiny amt of clear fluid probably bile. My hubby likes to share with the girls what ever he is having. He said he only gave her a tiny bite of his steak but it was cooked with onion powder. Is there anything I can feed her to help her with her belly. Like a brat diet or something? Do I need to take her to the vet? |
Onion powder is toxic to dogs. I would give my vet a call and ask for advice and to determine if an office visit is necessary. I hope Bailey feels better soon...and train your husband not to share anymore. Sometimes people are more difficult to train than dogs. :) |
Ok I will call her vet just make sure. Is there some dietI should give her until dirrhea goes away? |
Definitely check with the vet first because of the toxicity of onion powder and potential fat in the steak, and for advice on diet. When my guys had tummy problems, I rested their stomachs for half a day and just made sure that they didn't dehydrate. Check Bailey's gums and make sure they stay moist and pink. If they get sticky and pale, give Nutrical or Karo. Then I gave plain boiled chicken and white rice in very small amounts. You can also try plain oatmeal, no sugar or flavorings added. Start off slowly to make sure she keeps it down. |
Thank you! |
That amount of onion powder shouldn't hurt a dog, but it is toxic to dogs (destroys hemoglobin), so it should never ever be given again. I'd be a bit concernd about the steak. Because it has been diarrhea for two nights, I'd go ahead and see the vet. |
I called her vet he said in that small amt. she may have dirrhea for a couple of days but she should be fine. He had me check her gums and they are bright pink and healthy looking. She is full of energy today as she was yesterday so that was also a plus. He said to call back for changes in LOC or respiratory but he felt confident that she would be ok. I have counciled my hubby about sharing food. He said not to cook anything he couldn't share. He said he loves the girls and likes to share. I printed that list of hamful foods somebody posted. I will make some of those yummy Leo treats to have on hand for him to "SHARE" with the girls. I also told him that there is a little bit of difference between our 12 pound Westie and our 2.8 pound Bailey. It doesn't take a lot to have an effect on her. He agreed reluctantly not to share unapproved treats. ;) Thank you for all of your help. |
Good plan to keep things under control. Whenever grandpa starts getting generous with my pups, I warn him that he is going to pay the thousands of dollars in vet bills when the boys have pancreatitis. :D Of course he loves the pups and cares more about their health, but this seems to be the only way to get through to him the potential consequences of giving those extra pieces of cheese. |
OMG Cheese? I used to put Parm cheese on her food to get her to eat more is that bad too????? |
