Does this sound like a possible UTI?
 

I was hoping to post Rocco's 1st birthday yesterday, but instead I'm here today on the sick/injured forum :(. About 2 days ago, he started going out to pee more often, and had less and less urine coming out. I called the vet this morning, since he was just getting droplets of urine out and raised his leg repeatedly with nothing coming out. Tried to collect urine for a sample but couldn't get much. Went to the vet this afternoon, and he said he couldn't feel his bladder, which is a good thing, indicating it's not blocked and distended. He did not have a fever, and the vet did not see crystals in his urine. The vet tested a drop of the sample and no blood was present...good news? I have to wait until tomorrow to see if the urine shows elevated bacteria (?). Rocco also had some loose stools over the past few days - not watery, just very soft and sloppy. He's a little lethargic, but is eating and drinking fairly normally. Any ideas? I'm worried sick, sick, sick, hoping it's not something more serious:confused:

Still worried. He's been sleeping a lot tonight, then he went out and peed a little, and had a really runny, thin poop. And advice from the experts out there would be appreciated - I'm stumped.

I am not sure if going more is a good indication alone or not. I know that Hot Rod will go or "mark" when we go out. It gets to the point that that there can not be anything left. He will pee 4 x in a matter of the length of the driveway. lol But seriously, the other symptons that he is having doesn't sound very good. Hope someone will be able to help. Hope Rocco starts to feel better. Happy 1st birthday.

It's not just that he's going more often, it's that he's trying to go and nothing's really coming out. I think he's in some pain too...he looks so pathetic standing there with his leg lifted for like 30 seconds waiting for something to come out. Totally different from when he marks on our walks, and the squirter is empty halfway through. Then the loose stools have me completely stumped...
I'm just so worried about him.

We went through something VERY similar with our yorkie-poo Brody when he was about 7yrs old. He was acting weird, sleeping more often when he'd usually act like a puppy still. Then when he'd go outside he seemed like he was straining. Most of the time he'd produce no urine but sometimes only tiny tiny drops would come out. We took him to an emergency vet since it was on a weekend and our regular vet was closed. They did an x-ray and with what little urine he produced they took a sample as well and also didn't see crystals. However, the x-ray showed he had bladder stones and it was blocking his urethra. They told us that and told us we "should" follow-up with his regular vet the next Monday. When we explained it to his vet, she seemed alarmed that the vet we took him to didn't catheterize him IMMEDIATELY and told us to bring him in ASAP. She performed surgery the same day and told us that he could've died if we would've waited. None the less we were VERY unpleased with that ER vet...:thumbs_do:thumbs_do

I know you didn't mention if an x-ray was done but if it were me I'd make sure he gets one to check for stones. Bacteria can build up very quick and also tell the vet he should be catheterized.

Don't mean to worry you... I know everyone's experiences are different but that was mine and I hope it helps!:)

Thank you for your input. I am worried more and more that it's a stone or blockage. He did not have an x-ray, however the vet said the urine sample came back with zero bacteria, zero white blood cells, and zero blood... which does not point to an infection OR blockage.:confused: I am soooo worried and confused because he is in pain on and off, and he's not eating or drinking very well. He has good moments and bad moments. The vet said if he is not better by Monday, bring him back in, or if he gets worse go to the emergency vet. I can honestly say he's not gotten any worse so I'll have to wait and see. I'm desperate for some answers for my little guy.

BTW, did Brody have issues with loose stools at the same time too?

ANY other advice to be had out there? I know there are some extremely knowledgeable folks on here - I've read hundreds and hundreds of posts with brilliant information. Also, is it ok to give him Pedialyte in the meantime to be sure he doesn't get dehydrated? If he is passing urine, could he still have a blockage? If there's a chance of a small blockage wouldn't more fluids help to flush it? This is just all temporary for the night, to be sure Rocco doesn't get worse. Otherwise, off to the E-vet we go; at the very least, he'll be getting x-rays on Monday from his regular vet.

Edited: One more important thing: The vet said the bilirubin level in his urine was high (around 2) but he not concerned because he said concentrated urine could give an elevated reading. Rocco's sample was very concentrated. He recommended following up once he's urinating better and being sure reading was inaccurate.

Did the vet do any blood work? I would definitely want that done to make sure the kidneys are not involved.

To be sure he is hydrated, check his gums. They should be moist to touch.

He didn't have loose stool. They were normal. That's the only difference. Otherwise all the other symptoms sound alike. Brody was still passing urine...just in VERY small amounts and he'd strain for a long time to get it out. Also, he'd come in the house and I noticed he'd "drip" in little spots almost like it was so full he couldn't control it. When his regular vet saw him I know she said he was dehydrated and at some point he had IV fluids administered.

No bloodwork was done, just urine. My vet didn't seem overly concerned when I spoke with him yesterday, just said to watch him. I've given him what I can for Pedialyte tonight, I'll be boiling some chicken and rice in a couple of hours to see if he'll eat, and get some fluid from the chicken broth. No sleep for me yet...likely will be at the ER vet if he doesn't vastly improve. I'm concerned about a back up of urine.
