Dolce is sick :-( Good Morning all, My little guy, 5 lbs, 6 years has been vomiting all night into this morning. He has not eaten since yesterday afternoon and was fine until about 6/7pm. He's throwing up bile, drinking water and his nose is wet. I've tried to offer him boiled chicken and rice but he's not interested in eating anything at all. I didn't see him eat anything random, though he can be quite quick in picking up random foods on his walks. However I didn't noticed him eat anything on his am walk. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! |
I'm so sorry that little Dolce is sick. If I were you, I would get him to your vet but in the meantime would encourage him to drink chicken broth. I just use fresh broth from boiled chicken with nothing added. It will help him to stay hydrated and perhaps give him a little nutrient since he isn't keeping anything down. I will keep him in my prayers ... hope he is feeling better soon. |
thank you, I am making some broth now. I'll be calling his vet as well. thank you so much! |
It's good to call the vet. Are his gums white and sticky? If so, do you have any nutrical or karo syrup you can rub on his gums? |
Apple & Max had the same thing (one week apart), but happy to say, it only lasted about 48 hrs....Neither would eat, for about 24 hrs., and both had diarreah, following the throw up...However, their throw up was white foamy...Totally baffled me, as to what it was? All I could think of, is lack of rain, down here in S.E. Texas, and lots of bacteria, from squirrel and bird droppings...Anyway, they both started on a Saturday morning, and by Monday (when I was going to take them to the vet), they were both o.k...I did no food, for 24 hrs., then boiled white rice for 24 hrs., then added boiled chicken to the rice, for one more day...Hope your baby is well soon! |

Be sure it is real broth from chicken as described -- the instant broth normally has too much sodium unless you by low sodium version. The excess salt can upset them further when tummy is so empty. If mine are sick I do pretty much as Sweet Apple described. Giving their tummy the day of rest is pretty important. But monitor and have the Nutrical ready. I actually just go ahead and rub some on their gums if they are not eating all day. It won't hurt and may be just the thing to keep their sugar up. You can also give them a little watered down gatorade or pedilyte. That will keep the electrolytes up. Definately monitor the gums -- they should be very moist and pink. If they get sticky/tacky instead of nicely moist -- bad sign. They are dehydrating and they need to see the vet. Color can tell a lot of different things. Here is a sample from online: " The appearance of the gums is very informative. If the gums are blue, the dog lacks oxygen. If they are white, the dog has lost blood, either internally or externally. If the gums are purple or gray and there is a slow capillary refill, the dog is probably in shock. If they are bright red, she may be fighting a systemic infection or may have been exposed to a toxin." |
