Yorkie throwing up yellow bile
 

Hi!! i am a new yorkie mom. My baby is 9 months old and has thrown up yellow bile 6 times in the last 2 hrs. He has not eaten or drank anything for 4 hrs. What should I do? Emergency vet or wait for my vet to open in the morning

from my understanding yellow bile is from not eating enough. Has he eaten much today? Is he showing any other symptoms? Like tiredness, wobbly, shaking? Do you have nutrical? If not, do you have karo syrup or pancake syrup? Give him a half a teaspoon and see how he responds.

He is tired. but that is normal. He is in doggy daycare all day. he has not eaten since he got home or drank any water which is not normal

Very sorry your baby is sick.

Six times in 2 hours is a lot. How much does he weigh? Is he lethargic? Check his gums. They should be pink, not pale or white.

How long have you had him and has he had any other problems?

If I didn't go to the ER tonight, I would stay up and monitor him.

he weighs 7.4 pds. gums look pale or white to me. will not take "treats" either. ER?? I am not opposed to anything to help my baby!! but do not want to be the hypo mom either

This happens when they are not eating enough especially when they are playing a lot at doggy daycare. When this happened to my little girl the vet instructed me to feed her dime size portions until she got to the vet in the AM. Make sure you offer plenty of liquids as dehydration is a big concern for these little treasures. Sending good thoughts your way for a speedy recovery.

I would try to give him some fluids for sure. Do you have the nutrical or syrups? If he resists, smear a bit on his nose. He will lick and and will probably take more. With the white/pale gums (good call Maximo) it sounds like low blood sugar.

You also try giving him some plain chicken broth. No seasonings. can you boil some chicken and give him that? You can also try giving him some of the chicken.

I wouldn't be at all comfortable with white gums and vomiting. He is probably dehydrated by now, and gum color change can be some very dangerous things. If he isn't holding down water and his gums don't come back to a normal pink color immediately, it's best to go in tonight. The problem with assessing gum color though is everybody's interpretation is slightly different when talking about shades of pink. So hopefully you have looked before and can compare.

He is a good weight. Try the things Hot Rod's Mom suggested. Just in case, do you know where your nearest 24 hour vet is located? Have the number and directions on hand.

I am sure nooooo expert but I would make sure he is drinking plenty of water. Kayla has been sick the past couple of days. Vomiting and just not feeling good. After we just let her little tummy rest I gave her boiled chicken (breast) and brown rice. Made it kinda like a soup and she is doing better. No more vomiting. You might try that. Its about as bland as you can go. good luck!!!!!

Yellow bile and pale gums in my experience is serious. It could be a case of tick Bite fever or Biliary as we commonly call it here. I would see a vet - rather waste the money and have him be fine than leave it too long. The fact that he isnt eating or drinking is also a concern. He will get dehydrated so try and encourage drinking esecially. Try add some glucose to the water for extra energy. We gave it to our dogs when they had tick bote fever which was often as they spent a lot of time on the farm.

It could also be a sign of stress. My puppy had those symtoms from a high white blood cell count and ended up in emergency.

I have never used a doggie daycare but I imagine there is the possibility of spreading disease and parasites easily if there are lots of dogs around.

Im not trying to scare you but seriously, my first thought even just reading about the bile is Biliary. Pale gums and lethargy can also be signs of anemia. An anemic dog can also pass blood or signs of blood in their fecaes so, as gross as it is, monitor that as well. Google the symtoms and see what fits.

BUT...

#1 - See the vet! They can do blood tests and put your mind at rest

My first thought was Pancreatitis. I hope he got better thru the night and is now at the vet. We head right for the vet if that happens, and very glad we have several 24 hour centers around the Chicago area. Hope all is better now.

Thanks for all of your replies and concerns. I took him to the vet on Friday. The did blood work, x-rays, uranyls and monitored him for the day. All seemed good on paper. Vet said that it is either gastro related or an obstruction. Gave me antibiotics and anti-nauseam meds. Yesterday was still lazy but drank some water. Vet suggested rice and hamburger meat. He was able to somehow eat the hamburger meat while spitting out the rice--not a surprise. today he is still lazy and has not had anything to eat or drink. He has not thrown up since Friday morning. He is still urinating but has not pooped since friday. am a little concerned about that. also, he wants in my lap all the time and trembles when curled up. Plan to follow up with the Vet tomorrow AM to recheck. thank you again for all your advice and concerned

My JR often vomits yellow bile and it is more the excess acid than no food in stomach. I have to make her stay calm after eating as she will vomit for sure if she gets rowdy after eating. I can also give her some Pepcid if needed (only with vet's permision!). The article is pretty good at explaining this problem, potential causes, and treatment.

Well at least it isnt anything serious :) Im sure with time he will get better :) They are real little fighters :) Drinking is very important, try keep him hydrated

My 10 week old yorkie threw up bile 1 time

Is this normal for a Yorkie to vomit up yellow bile~? Mine threw up awhile ago, but I don't know if it was bile. It was dark yellow and foamy looking. This happened earlier this week but nothing came up just like this second round a bit ago.

My boy has been sick and wasn't eating or drinking. I made a purée of chicken breast, cooked carrots, some of his kibble, rice and a splash of low sodium chicken broth and water and I fed him this mixture through a syringe. And then the same with water. He has an infection in his liver but becoming dehydrated and not eating was making him feel worse. Within a few hrs there was a drastic improvement. It's easy to feed them with the syringe and I did just a little every 20 mins or so until it was finished. By dinner time he was eating on his own again. I didn't want to end up at the ER vet with IV fluids. So the water was forced all day and night in small amounts.
