My yorkie just ate cake! HELP! Okay, I have a female yorkie who is about 1 and a half years old. She only weighs 5 pounds and has never ever been fed human food of any kind. Well just now she got into some birthday cake , it was carrot cake with tons of frosting. She ate about 3 inches of a slice. I called the vet and they said to give her peroxide to make her vomit. I just don't feel comfortable giving my little baby peroxide! Anyone else have any advice? I think she will most likely be okay, everything i've read says chocolate is the one to worry about. I'm just worried cause she never has had human food soooo i'm pretty much expecting some potty messes at most. Any thought would be helpful. Thanks in advance! |
Were there raisins in the cake? If so, you really should try to get the dog to vomit. Here's an article you might find useful. Just be careful not to give too much. Did your vet tell you how much to give? Also make sure it's the 3 percent solution, not the strength used to bleach hair. |
Well, it's too late now, but yes, she should have veen forced to vomit. Carrot cake (no raisins) is not toxin, but it could cause quite a bit of intestinal distress. And depending on the amount of fat, it can trigger pancreatitis which would be a bigger problem than making her vomit. |
How is your little one doing today? |

My 5lb.yorkie Tess has had a slice of carrot cake a couple of times. No worries.... She was fine, loved the cream cheese icining. |

* The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center studies suggest that the lowest documented toxic studies suggest the lowest documented toxic raisin dose is 0.1 oz/kg and 10 to 12 grapes in a 20 pound dog. Raisins are 4.5 times or concentrated than grapes on an oz per oz basis. |
