Paris back from vet The vet did a pressure test for glacoma, none found. So that confirms Progressive Retinal Atrophy. He said he can see very little if anything. He said I am doing all the right things don't change anything, and he will adjust. I am going to put up the Christmas tree this weekend. We'll see how he does with that. He walked right into the curb at the vets and then he walked into my shoe while sniffing around the room at the vets. I thought he just couldn't see at night but this isn't so. The vet said he knows the house thats why I don't see him walking into things at home. He also said no supplement will help, total blindness is inevitable. We'll just go one day at a time. |
I had an older pup go blind and he adjusted pretty well.... I just had to always make sure to keep my cellar door shut...I think because when he could see he never used it and when he went blind he had no idea there were stairs there... I know your vet said no supplements, as your vet is right they will eventually go fully bling...but we had a foster dog with PRA and they did reccomend a vitamin for him.... |
Poor Paris. I wish I could say something to make things better. At least Paris has you and you will be giving him a wonderful life. God Bless You. |
Has Paris been to a board certified opthamologist to diagnose the extent of the retinal degeneration? PRA dogs do eventually go fully blind- but I am very surprised the vet wouldn't want to try the supplements available to prolong sight- some dogs on supplement have been with sight for over 5 years, when the norm without is 6 months to a year. |
Will say a prayer for your Paris. He is lucky to have a Mom like you :) |
Thank you all for your kind words. About supplements: the vet said at this point it is too late for supplements because he doesn't have any vision to speak of. He has gone down hill rapidly. He is doing well adjusting though. He said it wouldn't hurt him but it woldn't help either. He did recommend the opthamoligist but his specialty was vision and he did the glacoma test and several "sight" tests with Paris and from what I observe outside the home, I don't think it would be useful really. I certainly don't have the funds for that at this time of year. Thanks for all your support. Paris has been a blessing to my life. I will continue to make his life a full and happy one. |
I am so sorry to hear about your little baby. With your love and support, he will have a happy life. I am sending prayers to Paris, and bless you for being a wonderful mommy. |
It's heartbreaking, but I believe Paris will do better as time goes on and he learns to get around. I'm really sorry, because I know how you must feel seeing him blind and unable to "see". He will learn to see in other ways with your guidance. |
Thanks to all of you for your kind, supportive words. |
