Ants vs yorkie Is there anything I should be watching for, other than difficulty breathing, if my baby (Tia/10 months/5lb 3 oz) got in ants? She came to me a few mintues ago, rubbing her face on a rug, looked kinda jumpy, so I tried to pick her up, and she ran to her bed. I started looking and about five or so ants crawled off of her. I grabbed her up and threw her in the laundry tub, clothes and all, and started washing. I gave her some Benadryl, then dried her off. The vet's office said one ml of Benadryl per lb. That seems a lot to me. I was watching her and Ally play outside, but didn't see the ants. I'm going to search the yard now. She is playing/running around the house now with Ally and doesn't seemed bothered, but I'll keep a close eye on her. Any info and/or prior experience would be greatly appreciated! |
What kind of ants did she have on her? Were they the black or red ones? If they were those fire ants it doesn't sound like she was bitten or she would be screaming. They really hurt. She probably just felt them crawling on her. Medication isn't necessary unless she was bitten several times. Poor little girl. My Azrael had a bee crawling in her coat and acted the same way, but when I was searching her coat for the problem, "I" was the one who got stung! |
Ouch! I hate fire ants and battle them constantly here too. They can hurt, sting, and then itch for a while. But they are rarely a big problem. As long as she was not subjected to them for any prolonged time, she should be just fine. Over & Out is the best stuff for yards. |
Thanks. They were the little black ones. I can't tell if she was bitten because her hair is sooooo thick. I did find a big pile of them hidden under the rocks in the back yard (instead of mulch, I have rocks around my swimming pool). I sprayed them really well. I guess FL is getting it's share of ants because it has been dry and they're looking for water. I walk the yard every day with the dogs and look. I don't think she was in them very long...hopefully. I am watching her and I did not give her the amount of Benedryl the vet said to give her. Way too much! Thanks again. |
