Lily is a lucky girl.... I feel so stupid....I should know better. Today I put a little barrette in Lily's hair rather than a band to keep her hair out of her face. Not even an hour later I realized that it was not in her hair. I looked everywhere..We didn't go outside so I know that it had to be in the house or worst case scenario in her tummy. I went with my instinct and with the vet only open for 15 more minutes..I called and they waited for us. The vet did an XRay and sure enough there it was. She gave her Apomorphine drops and induced vomiting. She was confident that it would be ok since there seemed to be enough food in her stomach that bringing up the barrette wouldn't do any damage. Thank goodness I didn't wait or else it could have been in her intestine and not so easy to fix. She and I are both lucky....a very expensive mistake! |
OH MY!!!! glad everything turned out fine |
I'm glad she's ok. Everyone makes mistakes. She's ok. Now, you can exhale.:) |
Oh thank goodness you took that barrette back in time! Teddy recently was playing with a top knot bow that he chewed out of Barney's hair and I noticed the plastic embellishment was gone (plus he just looked guilty). I got out the hydrogen peroxide, fed him some bread and milk, and let him run around the yard. 10 minutes later, I had the plastic flower back. They really can sometimes be crazy!! |
OMG....I never thought about the eating the barrette!! Glad to hear you followed your instinct and took her right away. These yorkies get into everything  |
You have to watch them every second! I don't have to worry about Max but Lily is so mischievous! :D |
great that you thought so fast. good job! prayers for a safe recovery and fully back to Lily soon. i know she must be tired from all that has happened. thank God for mommy instinct. |
Lily is a firecracker..she was a tad mopey for a little while then was back to herself in about an hour. She was ready to eat and play :D |
By the way, my friend came over that night and I gave her all the barrettes for her little girl. From now on its bands only and her custom bows with close observation. What she swallowed was a little metal one made for little girls. |
So glad you went with your instinct and she is fine:) |
Tell Lilly to stop scaring you like that! I will send some extra bands in your box that goes out tomorrow--were you low on bands? I remember when Baxter was a puppy he chewed one of those Glade Plug-in Cartidges, it somehow slipped out of the holder. He pierced the plastic and got a good dose of that gel. He had a very upset tummy, and I had a nice ER Vet Bill. I think Yorkies are part Billy Goat! |
Amy...you are very sweet. No, I wasn't low on bands. Sometimes its just easier to clip the hair away out of her face but I suppose its much easier to come out too! Everything goes in her mouth! I need to watch her like a hawk, that's all. |
Thank goodness Lily is well! Very scary ordeal for you. Glad you had a happy ending. |
What a good mommy! I would never think of them eating the barrette! Glad to hear it came out fine :) |
