reverse sneezing? My dog makes this noise with his nose and I searched on here and found out it could be reverse sneezing i guess. He only does it when hes excited like playing or when i come home. It doesn't seem to hurt him he will continue to play as he does it. He had this last year also around the winter time. Should I bring him to the vet or is this common? |
my puppy does this when she wakes up in the morning, or when she gets rly excited - i think it is normal, she used to do it alot when she was about 9 wks old - and i got rly nervous about it but the vet told me that it is normal - also when she goes outside i think because of the cold air they do it - so i don't think you should worry at all - only if there is anything coming out of the nose/eyes then you should definetly go to the vet. hope this helps and keeps you worrie free ! =) |
Thank you I thought it might be from the cold weather thank you for telling me its common that takes some worry out of me |
Are you using a collar or a harness? You should always use a harness so their throat can't get damaged. When they have episodes of reverse sneezing gently put one hand on their shoulders and with your other hand curve your first finger over their nostrils, just the nostrils not the mouth, so they have to breathe out of their mouth. Not sure why or how this works but it does. Reverse sneezing may be a 'normal' thing once in a while but if it happens a lot you should have it checked out to make sure it isn't allergies or a collapsed trachea. |
I use a harness all the time only collar he has only shows his rabies. |

When I first heard this noise coming from one of my Chihuahuas back four or five years ago, it concerned me so much that I took her to the vet for a checkup. My vet informed me that this was pretty common and it doesn't hurt her - he also gave me the technical medical term for it, but I can't remember what he called it. He could actually make an exact replica of the sound himself LOL -- so I was fairly certain I could trust his diagnosis of it being nothing unusual. I hope this helps! |
My Barney has reverse sneezing. If he gets into a long reverse sneezing fit, covering his nostrils sometimes helps. Other times, I have to bring him outside for fresh air. If those two things fail, I run hot water in the bathroom sink and allow him to breath some steam. I usually drop 1-2 drops of peppermint essential oil in the water. It sounds silly but it is my homemade version of a vaporizer but chemical free. We go through this every winter - we live in an old home and have steam heat that blasts when it comes on so we all get chapped, dry, and honk. :D |
makes sense why he would do this thanks a lot everyone I don't feel worried anymore |
