Bloody paws!!!I don't know what to do!! We just came from a walk just a few minutes ago. I've noticed that his back paws are bloody. should I put something on them? not sure what to do, please help. |
Do you know how he did it... Rinse them with warm water and see if they are cut.. Is it all 4 of them? |

Is he a puller? Is it his nails, pads or actual foot? Once Uni was pulling SO hard on her leash that she wore down her nails all the way to the quick and she was bleeding. |
I noticed that its his nails on his hind legs. it seems like some of the nail broke off. the bleeding stopped but I'm still worried. Does he still need to see the vet? |

I washed her paws and held up a paper towel to stop the bleeding. Was at a meetup and didn't have quick stop. She bled for quite a while. Actually I'm surprised i didn't take her to the vet. Now that I think back, I should have. Then I invested in a Flexi retractable leash, the extra long one. Gives her more freedom and she doesn't pull anymore on it. On a regular leash she still pulls. That is what works for us. Usually, like 90 percent of the time you don't want to put a puller on a retractable leash. It's just rewarding their pulling by getting farther, which is what they want. But, for us it worked i beleive bc she thinks she is not on a lead, and when she is off lead she heels like a champ. go figure. You need to train him to stop pulling. When he starts to pull make him sit. he will soon realize if he pulls you will not allow him to go anywhere. This method didn't really work for us bc Uni will sit, but be barking screechingly loud while doing it. So while she is doing what I asked, she is doing something else that is undesired. Can't let myslef tell her "good girl". |

You must definately, wash the affected paws, if you don't have any disinfectant, use cooled boiled water and salt, not too hot or strong salt mix though. You must check where the bleed is coming from, could it be glass?or something thorny? (don't rub the wounds though, if it is a foreign body, you can put it into the paw further) How bad is the bleeding? does it need vet treatment, if you cannot stem/stop the bleeding then it does, immediately! If you are sure the bleeding has stopped or is stopping and there are no foreign bodies in the paws, you must protect against infection and licking. if you feel confident dress the wounds, are you able, or another person able to go back and re-tack where you have just walked to check the area/paths etc for any possible causes? (if in doubt call the vet out!) |
