Help/Blisters on corners of mouth Ben has developed blisters on the corners of his mouth and is rubbing against the carpet to scratch them. I think in doing this, he has rubbed a raw spot on his nose. He is absolutely miserable. I can't think of anything we have done differently with him to cause this. What should I do? Has anyone else had this problem? He seems to still be eating and drinking okay. He has been keeping his tail down and lays around a lot. But does get up and play a little. He is just not really himself. Please let me know if you have experienced this with your Yorkie. |

POOR BABY !! I have no idea what that could be but I would sure go to the vet to find out ! Maybe put some vasaline on them to ease the burning ? Poor little guy....I hope it's nothing serious...Could it be an allergy maybe or ant bites ? Has your yorkie been outside ? |

Yes, I will put vasoline on the sore and I have an appt for the vet. Unfortunately tommorrow at 9:30am is the quickest they could get him in. He is eating though so hopefully it's not too bad. I just hate that he is so miserable! |

Maybe he got into Fireants? I know on people they leave blisters that itch. Poor baby. |

Poor baby - it sounds miserable ! I wonder what it could be ? I would keep checking your post here and maybe someone who has had experience can help you more ....I hope the vasaline works - in a pinch it's great stuff but I know there must be something else your vet can do - I would see if they can squeeze you in today if you can get away - I know my vet is on a small crew on Saturday mornings ... only works a 1/2 day- today being Friday... maybe they'll see him before the weekend ? GOOD LUCK !!! If you can get the pain under control maybe he'll be a little happier... |

Oh no! He must be so miserable with those blisters...Poor baby. Hopefully the vet will be able to give him something to take away the discomfort and also something that gets rid of them. :) |

I don't want to scare you - but have you checked ALL your electrical cords ? IF a dog chews a cord - besides getting shocked - it can cause burns on their mouths...just a thought - I sure hope that didn't happen to your baby !! |

Thanks for eveyones input. I took him to the vet. Saturday. Ben has some type of immune system deficiency. He will be ok and live a long life; however, will need to take steroids every 2- 3 days. Apparently, this type of thing runs in pure breed dogs. It can also show up in people too. The vet threw out a lot of terms, but the best I can explain is when something is breed too much they are susceptible to certain diseases. For lact of a better term, I guess you could call it a "blue blooded disease". I did not realize that Lupus in humans is also from "overbreading". I will take him in tomorrow for a byopsy to make sure he has this immunne deficiency abnormality thing. He is also going to have a tooth removed. So they are going to put under anestiasa. Please say a little prayer that everything goes ok. And, Yes I am a terrible speller. I always do spell check but am on a new system and can not locate. |

Im glad that you took him to the vets. I will keep him in my thoughts and prayers. My daughters Bull dog gets little blisters around his mouth , They had to change is plactic water bowl to a metal one and he also has a special shampoo and it has helped a lot but when they do come back the vet gives him a pill and it clears right up. |

There are OTC preps that humans use for fever blisters that your vet might approve of. BUT, I swear by OraJel max strength. I use it for everything from head to tail..not the same tube, though..It has benzocaine (20% I think) and will numb it up good. Also, I use Tea Tree Oil, pure oil. Not a lotion or cream that has it or malameuca in it. Use very sparingly..It is a mild astringent but it will keep him from licking often.. Could the sores be like or fever blisters? If so, ask about those preps for humans..You just never know what might help..Good Luck. I hate to see him start on a lifetime of steroids but they are necessary sometimes.. |
