Help! My puppy ate the pack from a shoe box! Help! My puppy just ate the silicone pack from a box of shoes. Well he chewed on it and broke it. I am not sure how much if any he actually ate. We picked up a good bit off the floor. Should I be worried? Thanks in advance! |
I would definitely call your vet if not take him in asap. Not to scare you but silica absorbs liquid so it would definitely be a good idea to call the vet. |
Thank you for the quick reply. I am on the phone with the vet now. They said to make sure he has plenty of water to drink and to keep an eye on him. Hopefully he didn't actually eat any and will be fine. Thank you again! |
I hate those silica packets. I caught Gucci when she was going to start chewing on one. I guess we were lucky. Call your vet ASAP. Please keep us posted. http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer...ets_poisonsafe |
Thank you for your reply! On the site you posted it said it is non toxic but may cause some tummy upset. Thank you again! |
Your welcome. I guess just keep an eye on your little one. Hopefully he didn't ate any. |
Oh my as soon as I saw your post I jumped in my seat.. I HATE those things! I hope he's alright.. My vet told me that if I see Harley swallow something that I know is dangerous for him to ingest I can give him a teaspoon of peroxicide and he'll vomit it back up.. I've done it before and it's worked. I thought it would hurt him but he was fine. Maybe this will help if you see him swallow anything else scary in the future! There is also some product you can get that causes vomiting that you can use but my vet said the peroxide is just as safe. |
Oh I hate those things. I sure hope that he will be ok. |
Those things are bad for people, so yes they are Dangerous for a doggie...Please keep us posted... |
As of right now Sebastian seems to be doing okay. I brought him down to get a drink of water and he did drink plenty so I guess thats a good thing. I hope he continues to do well and drink plenty. Thank all of you for your concern and advice. |
Poor thing - keep an eye on your baby. My Lexi got one a couple of weeks ago and I immediately looked it up on the web. The silica gel is NOT poisonous. The danger is from choking on the little bags. Indeed, Lexi showed no signs of illness at all. I took your post to read that your baby also chewed the bag up and it didn't read as if she had swallowed it whole...what a relief. I double checked with vet and the silica gel is not, I repeat, not poisonous. I'd rather have damp shoes that those little bags around anyway. Hope your baby is ok!!!!! Best wishes. Keep everyone posted. |
Well we made it to morning! He seems to be just fine. Yes Sebastian tore open the bag and possibly ate some of the bag paper and some beads. It was quite scary! I am glad he is okay and will have to start checking my shoe boxes and throwing them away right away. Thank you for your replys! |
Oh I'm so glad he's doing ok!!! |
