Ollie has diarrhea :( So I looked into the older forums and found one from '08 what to do for diarrhea... I fed him what white rice I could get him to eat... at first he ate quite a bit, but as soon as he was done he started going again... I think he is scared to eat that he will just poop... I also tried the canned pumpkin, which he did not like at all!!!! neither have helped. It's been 48 hours so I called the vet cause if anything else... I think he is a little dehydrated. He has been drinking but after 2 days he seems a little lethargic... his nose is still wet tho, and there is no sign of blood in the stool and when I get he runs around me in circles.... but he just isn't acting like my little Ollie... So we are headed to the vet :( |
That's the best thing always - to visit the vet if unsure. Most likely the vet will tell you to feed him boiled chicken, rice and plain yogurt for a couple of days and to give him pepto bismol to coat his tummy. With the pepto bismol the poop is black - so don't be alarmed. My little guy gets stressed out very easily and when he does, his poop will be very loose - almost diarreah. Pumpkin usually helps too - but make sure its not pumpkin pie filling - but plain pumpkin. Good luck. |
Here is what I do for my little babies: LOTS of PLAIN pumpkin and get unflavored Pedialyte to give instead of water. If it gets to the point where they can't take that in, off to the vet we go! Good luck! :( |
If your unsure always head to the vet to be on the safe side. Hope Ollie i okay and keep us updated please. :) |
Good news is no blood in stool and not dehydrated he got a shot of pcn and i started him on flagyl. Vet said it should start firming up within 6 hrs. Thanks everyone for the info!!! |
Penicillin, flagyl. Does he have an infection? |
He didn't mention an infection. He said it was probably just a virus and since there was no blood in the stool, that was what he gave me to give him. |
Flagyl is great for diarrhea. My baby gets diarrhea when he picnic on bugs. After a few times to the vet with flagyl, I started buying them from Drs Foster & Smith. All it took was 1/4 of pill and all good. |

To all my new yorkie friends. I had a yorkie Mikey, who started pooping all the time real lose, my vet stated on med, to stop it, ever two weeks he would start again. When I moved I had to find another vet, When I took him in to have his teath cleaned, they called me and advised they could not do his teeth , as he was showing o protein in his body, and need a port in his leg to give his body protien. After several exams they advised me he had PLE which is where your body does not keep the protien in there body and leaks out of the intestines. He was on prescription dog food and several pills. We had a hard battle, and my wonderful Mikey fought it for two years, and he lost the battle, my heart aches for him so much, it has been two weeks, and I cant stop crying as He was born in the house, and I bottle fed him, I lost him at eight years old. But thank God I still have his mom and dad and sister. But there will never be another Mikie.I had him cremated so he would always be in the house with me. |

So sorry to hear about little Mikey. How sad, I've never heard of that. Did the vet say if that was a genetic disorder, or a virus? How scary... again, sorry for your loss |
