Im sitting here crying I feel so bad.... And she didn't even yelp she was moving but I was trying to keep her still ugh I don't have anything like that here. If it doesn't stop bleeding I will go to the pharmacy man im such an idiot! I will NEVER do that again. |
Ok I stopped the bleeding geesh ig it's not one thing its another im giving her sugar lol she hates it. The last thing I want to do is harm my babies! |
I am glad the bleeding stopped. These things happen. |
I use an electric shaver for the ears. It is very small. I would never use scissors as I did cut one of my dogs many years ago which required stitches. I was horrified. I was cutting mats off his leg. It still makes me cringe even after all these years. Cherie |
Sunnie gave you the best advice. I keep septic sticks on hand. But, never, never use scissors on the ears. Invest in a Wahl Peanut. They trim ears beautifully. By the way I've cut an ear before, I don't know how as I wasn't even trimming anywhere near the ear. The ears have so many blood vessels and bleed so much. Don't beat yourself up. |
Corn starch works as good as a styptic in case you ever nip a nail too short, it may work on ears too. |
Unfortunately these things do happen. Even with the pro groomers. Magic had his ear cut and she wasn't even trimming the ears, they can shake their head, and if the scissors are near, well the ear can get nicked. It bleed profusely too. I like the Wahl peanut too. Styptic powder I always have in grooming room, and in our emergency kit. |
I understand how badly you feel. I cut my son's ear one time (when he was little) when I was cutting his hair! He has never forgotten it and never let me forget it either! He was fine and hopefully, your little one will be fine too. But I still felt guilty for a long time. |
Thanks everyone for your wonderful replies. I love ALL your ideas I will check out the wahl peanut and deffinatly look into the powder. Does Quik stop work as good? I was looking it up online today Ohh btw she is doing better Bear my pom came to her rescue and gave her "bath" and cleaned her. He is such a good boy:animal36 |

Sometimes the styptic products sting alot, just a heads up... and flour works too in a pinch. Never use Hydrogen peroxide on an open wound...it will eat away good tissue. Liquid soap (not antibacterial) and water is best, and if not requiring stitches, and antibiotic ointment can be applied. Hope your baby's doing better.... |
