Ok idk if i should be worried or not, but i AM; HELP! [VIDEO] OK, FIRST sorry that the video is sideways. i'm surprised i even thought to get my phone to catch this. i could be over reacting. someone tell me SOMETHING PLEASE ! ! ! so Hazel's been doing fine since her sickness episode. shes eating the boiled chicken and rice, and i'm still giving her the pedialyte because she's still not drinking water, her stool is fine, etc. i got home from work today. and picked her up. first thing i noticed, her stomach feels SUPER BLOATED and AIR FILLED. ok, whatever, so i took her outside to pee and poop. she did. poop, normal. i bring her back in the house. and we're on the steps... she throws up. its SUPER clear, no foam, a little bit thick, with the pieces of rice and some chicken in it. THEN she starts making this NOISE like an AIRY HICCUP... thats what the video is. she did this for about 5 minutes straight. i just got home from work, i haven't really noticed a change in behavior, but i still have to watch her... does anyone know what this is? i wouldn't be worried 1. if she wasn't sick the past couple of days, and 2. if she didn't throw up before doing it.. HELP PLEASE! |

Is she just continuing to do that? My first thoughts were hiccups too but since you said no. I am not sure but if it is something unusual for her you may need to take her to the vet. Do you know what made her sick before? |

sounds like it could be reverse sneezing? maybe someone with more experience could confirm, but if it is, its nothing to be worried about. google it for more information and other videos |
shes playing just fine... IDK someone on another site told me her dog does this after she vomits also... idk how to google it!!! what do i put!?!?!? |
Hmm.. it looks like hiccups to me too but then you know your dog and you say its not. Seen as we arnt quite sure what they are and she has vomitted again I would get her the next available appointment with the vet. Hope she gets better soon! |
i called the vet, she said it doesn't sound like anything to be worried about... she said it sounds like she may have eaten too fast and taken in alot of air (causing the bloated feeling on her tummy and those "hiccups"), causing her to throw up a little (and she said since there was no color to the throw up, and that her food wasn't really chewed.. it ALSO leads her to believe she ate too fast) and then have those "hiccups" she said if hazel was unresponsive, SUPER lethargic, un-arousable, constantly vomiting, uncomfortable looking, then she'd worry and take her to the hospital. but she said the fact that she JUST ate something (a few minutes ago), doesn't lead her to think it's anything fatal going on... so i should just wait it out. |
I also forgot to post that the vet said they could have been "modified" hiccups because I'm giving her fluids through a syringe... and with her gulping; comes air intake. Especially since I've been having her on her back as I give her the pedialyte. |
It sounds like a combination of hiccups and reverse sneezing, she may have aspirated some vomit or some may have ended up in her nose (from her throat) and this is her trying to clear it. I would have your vet check her soon. Also, I don't think that 'on her back' is the best position for force feeding through a syringe, maybe sitting position with you holding her head up, and only small amounts at a time. Maybe flavor her water with a tiny bit of chicken broth to entice her to drink on her own... Watch her tummy... if she continues to get more bloated, then an emergency to the vet visit would be best... |

Also, be sure to allow her enough time to get thirsty, so she'll want to drink on her own. If you are syringing her too much, she won't feel the need to go and get a drink... You can also add some water to her food to increase her water intake, and offer the pedialyte in a bowl to try to get her to drink on her own. shes definitely doing much better... *fingers crossed* that nothing unfortnate will happen today. last night she drank water by herself for the first time in almost a week =] i'm introducing her BB again today. |
Just watched the video. Sounds like a reverse sneeze to me. Morgan does the same thing sometimes. Most of the time if i place my finger over her nose to to make her breath through her mouth she will stop, or if i give her a treat she'll stop. Other times she'll get herself so worked up that the reverse sneezing will get faster and my "tricks" won't work. In that case i just hold her to try to calm her down. I rub her back and the front of her chest/neck to sooth her. You have to stay calm while doing this otherwise she'll pick up on your anxiety. |

Same effect of making them breath from the mouth instead of the nose. It stops immediately. Hope this helps. But really is all part of owning a Yorkie. *If you put your hand under the chin while a reverse sneeze is happening you can feel the throat (lack of a better word) bulging outward with each sneeze. |
Why is she getting pedialye and how much has she been getting a day?? There is enough water in chicken and rice that drinking is kept to a minimum. She may be getting too much liquid (could be making her not feel well...like how we feel when drinking water too fast). How many ml's or tsp's is she getting a day? |
I would have said dry heaves, my big dog is a frequent upchucker and she does this kind of thing, keeps me on my toes trying to prevent another (big) mess. Ziva drinks very little, if she pees and poops I don't worry too much... |
HEY GUYSSS sorry i haven't been on all day but i haven't been gettin ANY sleep... i was literally waking up every hour to check on Hazel the past couple of days... Throw work into that mix, and late nights with friends and family... and you have ONE TIRED HOLLEI. i came form work and went right to sleep. Hazel is MUCH better today. no scares of ANY type. shes back to eating BB, and shes FINALLY drinking water on her own. her tummy, sooo NOT bloated today. THANK GOODNESS. thank you ALL SO VERY MUCH FOR BEING SO RESPONSIVE ! ! ! if Hazel wasnt sleeping under my comforter right now, i'm sure she'd send lots of KISSES! |
Sounds like she aspirated some of her vomit. It happens...burns something terrible, but no worse for the wear, it's what led her to vomit is where the concern is. Vet told me sometimes 'stress' cause them to vomit, especially the clear stuff. I was doubtful, but after that I removed the "stressor" and the vomiting stopped. Go Figure. |

Hiccups I am so happy to hear that it wasn't anything serious. We do worry about our litle babies. I bet you are relieved.:) |
