My Coco in pain and breaking my heart please help! My 5 years old Yorkie recently started yelping when we touch her and she is walking very hunched and slow. I took her to the vet and he said she had inflammation in her back so he put her on Metacam. It seemed to work at first but then she started acting the same way as before so then he put her on a steroid and once again for the first few days she seemed better but now after day 9 she seems to be back in pain and has a lost interest in toys and is crying again and has a weird croaky bark as well as some shaking. Please help if you can. Like many of you she is my child and it breaks my heart that she is in so much pain. Thanks so much! |
Im so sorry to hear that, I dont have any other advice other then letting her see a vet which you have already done. I would just like to say that I am thinking of her and I will pray for a speedy recovery. |
Hello! I went through the same thing with my Layla. When you have time you may want to read my thread about her called "Worried about Layla" in this same forum. First of all, do you have a crate? If not, please put Coco in as small an area as possible so she is not walking or moving. It is very important with a back injury to keep her still so the back has a chance to heal. The more she moves, the more she will aggravate her back. If she may have a bulging disc, it is recommended that she has 8 weeks of strict crate rest. Some vets may say differently but I believe it's best to be cautious anyway! She can't hurt herself by resting, right? As you can see in my avatar, Layla is now paralyzed. She went from slow hunched walking, to losing use of her legs in a matter of hours. It is very important to keep her still! I've learned a lot since going through the ordeal and I just want to pass on what I know now. Good luck to you and Coco! Stay strong for your little girl! |
If my dog, she would be going to a board certified neurologist asap! Delays in problems like this can be deadly for a little one. Ask your vet about a referral. Or look one up at: www.acvs.org A second opinion is always good. Good luck! |

My litle Gina (rip) would sometimes pull something in her back. She would walk hunched over. We would confine her and not let her jump or walk up the stairs. It always took 4 or 5 days for her to get back to normal. I think they are like people - once you injure an area in your back you are prone to hurt it again. Sometimes she would just be running in the back yard and stop short and bam, she would yelp and come hunched over. Hopefully, time will heal the problem. |

 I totally agree. If there is no neurologist in your area, please at least consider a consult with a board certified internist who can manage the care far better than a general vet. They have more training and experience and are usually affiliated with a hospital setting seeing many cases of trauma and ill dogs. |
I hope you can find someone that can give her some relief. Poor little furbaby. I can't image what you are going thru! |
I hate to hear that an animal or a child is in pain. That is awful. I hope you find the help you need. There are a lot of people on here that will surely guide you in the right direction. I will pray for your little one and I hope you both find comfort. |
What Specialist did you go to? My parents live in AZ and last year their little Cole hurt his back. I *believe* They went to: Contact Us/Locations Please seek Vet help, if your baby is in pain he needs to be at the Specialist :( |
Specialists are a bit more expensive, but well worth it. Or even a second opinion with a different vet.... Ladyjane is right... this is a problem you don't want to 'wait and see' on...Hope your baby is feeling better soon.... |
