Latte's having foot surgery Well, the splint on the two broken bones in her foot caused an infection. The splint was rubbing her little leg. Now, after antibiotics to clear it up we're going to have the bones pinned tomorrow. I had a problem with her still wanting to be on the bed with us and telling us about it for hours and I solved that! I try to have her sleep in her kennel beside the bed. If she doesn't calm down, I take her kennel into the living room and I fall asleep in the recliner. For some reason, as long as she's not by the bed she's perfectly happy to sleep in her kennel. :confused:I think my presence has something to do with it. We got her a new soft-sided kennel so at least if she's REALLY unhappy, she can't hurt herself. Anyway, hanks for all the tips and hints. I feel very confident in the surgery and DH is going to drop her off for me tomorrow. Hopefully, we are truly on the road to recovery and normalcy now!! |
Glad you were able to find a solution. :) It's amazing the things these little boogers can make us go thru to keep them happy. :) Best of luck with the surgery. Please let us know how it goes. :) |
Latte's foot surgery Thank you! Oh, and I figured out something better than the "cone". I tried one of the ones in the picture, but it was too big for her little head. So, I took one of my hand-knit socks, stuffed it with fiberfill and ran a ribbon through the two ends. Then I tied the ribbon in a bow behind her head. She used it like a pillow! I will update everyone tomorrow. |

No foot surgery The bones were too tiny to pin (they're in the top of her foot. After much discussion, the vet and DH and I decided to let the foot heal the best it can and just have a slightly wonky foot. She can sleep on the bed with us with her collar and leash tethering her to the head of the bed so we don't have to worry about her falling off. This is a great, kind, knowledgeable vet and we know that Latte will be out of pain soon and back to her perky self! |
