Ear mites!! So I took Poppy back to the vets today. As I have said before we thought she had an ear infection before I went on holiday, we took her to the vets and were given ear drops. She is still scratching so I brought her back today and the vet said she is crawling with ear mites!! :( my poor baby :thumbdown He said they are VERY contagious so we have to treat all dogs she has been in contact with, which are my older dog Jess and my BFs dog Bruce. We have been given ear drops to kill the mites so we need to put 3-5 drops in her ears twice a day for 7 days and he also gave her an injection. Hopefully this will kill them. I asked how she might have gotten them and he said she would have gotten them from her mother. He said the rottweiler which the breeder had (with the bad ears) probably has them and has given them to the yorkies.. who then passed them onto their pups. I will tell the breeder this but I know she wont treat her dogs, its so sad. :( Has anyone had any experience with ear mites? He told me to bring her back if after 10 days she is still scratching, but I think I will take her back if she is scratching or not just to make sure they are all gone. |
Cooper had ear mites a year ago. The vet prescribed Tresaderm drops and everything was fine after 7 days of treatment. Don't stress out too much. Hopefully they will be gone shortly with proper treatment. What drops did you get? |
It is no big deal as long as it is treated. Lots of people deal with it. Your little one will be fine as long as it is properly treated. At the end of the treatment, I would not hesitate in taking her back and having the ears swabbed again to be sure they are gone. You may even want to wait a few days past the end of her treatment to do this. As I said, it can be difficult to clear up, but just one treatment may do it. I just wanted to warn you in case a week of treatment didn't do it!:) |

Don't worry too much. I'm sure it looks worse than it is, due to all the scratching. |

Did I read you have a cat too? Have her checked also.... |
Oh poor baby. Scarlett had them when we picked her up from the rescue. She hated having the ear drops, but we would hold her down and do them any way. Luckily, we caught it before it had spread to Rhett. One course of her meds cleared it up. I second the idea of going back for a recheck at the end of the treatment, just to make sure. |

Poppy HATES getting the drops but she sat very still for them this morning which was good, every time I get the drops out I ask her if she wants to go mite slaying and she barks and spins around LOL! :p Yes I will definitely be taking her back after the week is up to make sure they are all gone. |

There is Revolution and another one called Advocate in the UK, I use advocate and order it from AU.. In America it is called Advantage Multi and can only be gotten with a prescription.. Blessings, Lin |

I will be getting her some frontline spot on treatment this week as she is now heavy enough to be treated with it. Is frontline the same thing or do you think revolution or advocate is better? |
