Loose stool Magnus have been pooping out loose stool the past couple days. He shows no other sign of being sick though. Drinks/eats/plays/pees like he always does. Nothing's been changed like food/snacks/activities. Everyone's been under extreme amount of stress this week and I'm wondering if he's reacting to that. I've started him on the blend food (boiled chicken, rice) since yesterday but no change yet. I will be taking him to the vet Mon/Tues if he doesn't show any sign of improvement. But has anyone experience this? |
Mix in a bit of Plain Yogurt! |
I have the same problem with My Yorkie "Izzy" way to often. My Vet has me give him a few doses of Pepto Bismol (.04ml) every 6 hours. It does work & if it goes longer than 4-5 days off we go to see the Vet for some Flagil. Unfortunately Izzy has a really fussy tummy so no treats just his food. However, from time to time I have to use this remedy. |
you can try feeding white rice and hamburger meat..... |
TYLAN works much better than Flagyl |
have you had your dog checked for Worms/parasites? thats why Hazel's stools were loose. |
Thanks for all your responses. I gave Magnus .04 ml of pepto 3 times every 6 hours yesterday. Well... his loose stool stopped. As a matter of fact... he didn't poop all day yesterday. He poop earlier this evening but it was bit hard and I think I heard him yelping a bit. *sigh* Again, he shows no other sign of being "sick" so I decided to wait one more day and see how he does. I'll update when something changes. Thanks again! Hazel: I haven't checked him for worms/parasites. That'll be my next action if he doesn't seem to improve. |

Ally: I started the pepto at 11:30 am, then at 5:30 pm, and last dose was at 11:30 pm. Should it have been every 8 hours? o_O He's about 10 lbs so thought every 6 hours was ok... But I'll definitely keep that in mind for next time... *knock on wood* Update! So I brought the lil furball with me to work for various reasons. As my co workers and I were having a mini meeting by the door, what does he do? Yes..... he takes his position... and poops right in front of the VP! Wasn't much I could do except say: "Well... at least he's ok now......" He wasn't straining to poop and it wasn't loose or too hard. Whatever he was going through seems to be gone now. But I'll be sure to pay extra attention to him the next couple days. I appreciate everyones advice and support! |
well usually 3 times a day means every 8 hrs (24 hrs /8 = 3); 4 times daily is every 6 hours. as long as you're giving 3 times should be fine; but if he's firmed up cut down to twice daily. check with the vet to confirm. glad he's doing better. |
take him to the vet. to be honest taking dosage advice from someone on yorkie talk is not something i would personally recommend. dosage of medications should only be done by a vet or techinician and not based on someone else's dogs dose. all dogs are dosed on weight and type. you could be overdosing or underdosing and seriously make a dog sick by giving the same amount as someone else tells you they gave their dog. i'd go to the vet if stools are not normal and i personally wouldn't recommend giving anymore pepto until you ask a vet about the correct dosage for your pup's size. this comes from someone who works for a vet hospital and has experience in this matter. edited to add: i'm very shocked also that a one time only poster would advise dosages and you would listen to someone with no previous experience or postings on here. i am glad that it did seem to work for you but in the future i wouldn't personally listen to someone with little posting on here or anyone other than a vet about dosages. |
Is he still a young puppy? If yes, please take diarrhea very seriously. In young pups, diarrhea can be especially dangerous. |
niceness I was reading the posts and I didnt see anyone advising anyone else about a dose of pepto. She was telling about her baby..........Please be nice...........we all love our babies and should be here to help one another. ............................boops mom:mad: |
