Hormonal Allergies If a female yorkie has skin allergies/dry skin, is it true that getting her fixed will cure her? I am thinking of adopting a puppy and i want to know if this a life long condition? What is the average cost of this condition? |
If she only has issues when in heat is the only way I could see it would help..don't know. |
Hi and Welcome to YT! How old is this puppy and where are you getting her from.... a breeder or rescue? |
I believe in July and it's a breeder, |
If it's a young puppy still with it's litter mates, do any others have this condition? A young puppy's hormones are not developed yet, that happens a bit before they go into heat, so I don't see where spaying her will help with the condition. Others things can cause flaking and itching if this is what you're seeing. Allergies can be very expensive to treat over the lifetime of a dog, and it may be more than just skin issues. I don't see how anyone can determine this in a puppy without doing full testing through a vet. If it's not too late, personally, as this sounds like this may be your first dog (?), I would pick a healthy puppy, and be sure to get a health guarantee, and purchase good pet insurance right away. Have the puppy checked by a vet of your choice being a condition of the sale. I hate to sound heartless, but to consider a purchase of a pup that is already exhibiting problems is not a wise choice to make. Allergies are usually maintained by treatment, many times they are not curable, and involves a lifetime of testing at the vets and continual medications to keep any discomfort under control. Not to mention problems with food and such also. It can be a real headache, and heartache. |
Also, many dogs with allergies may be allergic to certain foods, and/or medications. Many have problems with vaccinations... or anything they come in contact with. Of course, some cases are simple, and may just involve monitoring, but you won't know until she's tested and grows up. Allergens can change as the dog matures, some have environmental allergies and have to spend most of their time indoors. Many times, even when a medication is found that works, it may not work for a very long time. It's just not as easy as saying she has this, she needs to take med A for the rest of her life. Alot of trial and error is involved in keeping these dogs healthy and happy. I hope you find a healthy puppy to become a part of your family. Wishing you the best of luck in your search! |
I have one with bad allergies. After a lot of testing and trying different medicines, foods etc she has to be on a medicine that runs 60.00 a month. She also has a lot of other health issues. She is spayed. If the breeder thinks she does have allergies I would keep looking. An allergic dog is miserable until you can get it under control. Just my opinion. |
Thanks, I'm going keep looking. |
