yorkie acting different after going to groomer My husband took our yorkie to the groomer last friday--week ago and she hasn't been the same ever since. She has always jumped up and down off the couch and ran up and down the stairs. Since she got back, she won't even attempt to jump off the couch or run down the stairs, even to greet us at the door like she has always done. It's strange that usually it will only take about an hour to groom her, but she was there for 3 hours that day. She has been to this groomer before and she did fine. Now it has been over a week and she seems to have lost some of her spunk and she is scared to death of the steps. Any ideas on what I should do? Any help would be appreciated. |
I would call the groomer and ask if something happened that day. Let her know about her behavior and ask if she has any ideas. I also would take her to the vet for a thorough exam. She may have an injury that you are not aware of. |
I wonder if she hurt her leg at the groomers and it hurts to use the stairs. I would have your vet check her out. Did the groomer say why she kept her so long that day? I hope she is back to her normal self soon. |
Groomer said she normallly keeps them that long. Sounded concerned and wanted me to keep her posted. Said she checked her log to see if Shelby acted out of character that day but she acted fine. Shelby seems to be doing better, but she won't come off the couch without something soft to jump down on so I put the couch pillows on the floor. |
My Ben will pout for the rest of the day and sometimes even a little the next day when he goes to the groomer. I know they don't mistreat him, he just doesn't like going there or having the grooming done. But I understand your concern. Just like when a human baby is a little different coming from a babysitter, we worry they are not as well cared for as we would like. Our groomer keeps them several hours too. I hate that. Wish she would just make apppointments and let us come and wait for them. But she has a different lady come in the morning and shampoo and comb them all out. |
I wonder if your dog jumped off of someplace high, and if not hurt, scared it to death. I groom my own because I have heard so many horror stories and mine is a jumper. I had a small poodle once that one time when she was groomed she complained all the way home, so I figured the groomer did something to her that she did not like, so I never took her back. I started doing her myself. |
I think I would go have his legs checked out to make sure it hasn't been hurt. |

I took Paris to groomer ONCE. He came home and hid under things for two days and wouldn't come out and was scared to death. I cut his hair myself also. I don't pay that much to get my own hair cut!!! |

I just recently found out that groomers actually pinch a nerve in their legs or paws in order to trim their feet if they are not cooperative. My little neurologically challenged girl hates her feet being touched and I asked the groomer how they are able to trim her feet and that is what she told me. So perhaphs they were a little rough with your baby. I am not sure if this is common practice amounst groomers but it is something to think about. |

Checking for an update.... wondering if you took her to your vet? Many things can happen at the groomers... but nothing that should last more than a day or so. Your vet may be able to tell if was is bothering her happened from a grooming incident or not.... I would want to find out before ever going back there again. If she did fall from the table or something the groomer should have called you immediately to make you aware of the situation. She could have twisted wrong and hurt her back or shoulders or hips. How old is she and how much does she weigh? |
So sorry about your baby. : ( If she is still acting different, I would be concerned she did hurt something. I never heard that about pinching a nerve. : ( Not sure I like that either! |
