Mucous in stool? This AM, Elvis went outside as usual first thing, peed and pooped. Then he was scooting his butt, I took him back out and he pooped, at the end was some mucous. The rest of the poop was fine (normal looking). Any thoughts? He had been chewing on his bully stick last night after not doing so for a couple days. Can it be normal as long as it is only occasionaly? Plus with the butt scooting...? (It has only happened once, and I will ask the vet when he's in Fri or Mon for his shots. And I will call before our appointment if needed) |
Depends... was there a little or a lot? Was there any blood in it? Here's an article that might be helpful: Mucus in Dog Stool | PetMD |
I learned from Wylie's Mom that some mucus at the end of the stool can be a sign of them expressing their anal glands in a normal, healthy way. That sounds really likely here since he was scooting on his butt first. I'd keep a close watch on him for a day or two just to make sure he's feeling ok, but I don't think you need to worry just yet. It wasn't bloody was it? |
nope, no blood. It was just at the end of the poop. Most of what came out was poop. Thanks for the article, I'll read that! |
