I discussed growing pains, puppy arthritis, hip displaysia, legg perthes, lyme disease - you name it. Still nothing abnormal on the xrays. He and Cooper play hard. I've never had 2 dogs before and didn't realize I had to monitor much more closely. I think of Max as a big dog because he's almost 8 pounds, even though he's a puppy. I don't see him as fragile, but have definitely learned my lesson. I hope this is the last scare. Max, for a 17 week old puppy has had more tests than I could want to imagine. On another positive note: no seizures since his new dose of phenobarbital :) |
YAY! YAY! YAY! YAY! I'm so very glad!!! I know you're relieved and I bet Max is, too. YAY! |
Max is Limping Just saw this thread. Glad Max is feeling better!:) |
I can't believe Max is only 17 weeks, seems like he should be a year old by now! Keep getting better Max.:) |

Well, then, wishing you a full, healthy week next week!:) You both deserve a break. |
I just noticed that you had Max back at the vet again...what an ordeal you have all been through. Glad to hear he is getting well again and no more seizures. You are a wonderful doggie mommy. Give hugs to both Max and Coop from Trixie and I :animal-pa |
Yes we've gone to the vet quite a bit. We are going back Friday for Max's last puppy shots. He's still limping. Yesterday was the first day I've seen a little improvement. I have to work harder on keeping him confined so he heals faster. I give so much credit to anyone whose dog had to be confined for any length of time. |

The vet called on Sunday to check in on him. She said when she hit his sore spots, it was pretty bad. She said his back right leg was almost like a wooden leg:( She said I MUST keep him confined better. He's got so much energy he's now running the circumference of his expen (which is fairly small). Last night I had to sit in it with him to get him to hush. |
I hope Max gets better soon! It's so hard when our babies aren't feeling well. |

i'm just now reading all this. i am so sorry for all you have had to go through with Max. i know you love him so much and are doing everything in the world to make his life start out on the right foot (sorry no pun intended there) he's a beautiful boy and i can tell how much you love him. prayers for your strength and patience as you keep fighting for him. i love you guys and i hope it gets better and he comes through this fine. |
You've been really supportive. I'm just thankful the xrays came back normal, but the vet said that he was very sensitive in his lower right hip. If I put Cooper in with them they jump around and tug on toys. I'm finding things that keep Max busy for 20 minutes at a time. I froze peanup butter in a kong toy and he loved it. I have peanut butter dipped bully sticks, and tons of new toys. I froze chicken broth and give him ice pops. They are sleeping now and will probably sleep till early afternoon. |

I was just going to reply to your thread. I'm so sorry you have to go through what you are going through with your two. |

Someone mentioned frozen chicken broth on another thread I created. They both really love it - not sure how healthy it is to eat though. Also, oddly enough, Max is always calm when we go out in the backyard. He doesn't really run around and play in the grass. He'll either sit or lay. We spend a lot of time out there too now. |

That's great! Fynn isn't. Oh no. We have outside cats and they love him and he loves them, so our outside time is trying to get the ADHD dog away from the cats so he can potty! |

thanks, it's been a mess this month. pending new job, leaving for an overnight trip, labor day weekend with my parents when their food spoiled and made Bentley throw up, ext ext ext. i can't wait til' next week. i can sleep in for once. work 2-10pm and the dogs can get back on track with their routines and feedings. and hopefully if i sit tight on their food until it's all better and slowly transition to a new food again we can make a good switch. i still want them to eat primarily raw because they were doing so much better on it, but i want kibble in their diet in case we need them to eat that while we're traveling and it's so much cheaper which can't hurt right now. i think raw mornings and kibble evenings would help. thanks for the support though i appreciate all of you guys but really appreciate you and cooper and max. |
We've got some high maintenance dogs. |
Hope he rests well now. You've got your hands full. That's for sure!:) |

Have you considered a crate instead of an xpen to help keep him confined? Rory came up limping, and we weren't sure why, but the vet prescribed antiinflammatories and two weeks of inactivity (crate rest, basically). After two days, she showed no signs of pain, so I stopped the antiinflammatories (with the vet's permission) since I didn't want her to overdo it thinking she was better than she was, but I did the crate rest for the full two weeks. The good thing about a crate is you can move it from room to room with you, pick it up and put it next to you on the sofa, set it on the nightstand next to the bed, etc. It's really easy to poke your fingers in there too. We used lots and lots of bully sticks and Himalayan chews too, but most of the time she slept. It was hard to leave her in there, but I knew it was for her own good. Rory is very, very active, but I know nothing compares to the energy of a puppy, especially Max! Max (and Cooper) is so lucky to have you! Just thought I'd mention the crate to see if maybe you wouldn't have to spend large amounts of time in the xpen yourself. :p |

I have thought of the crate but haven't tried it. I really think that Max will just scream for hours. It's certainly an option though. The main issues are from 7-9am and then from about 5-8pm. Both of them will sleep most of the day if I don't entertain them or wake them up. For some reason I assumed it would heal much faster, even with activity. I feel I've wasted 2 weeks not keeping him confined and he's showing very little signs of getting better. Starting yesterday we finally got very strict with his activity. I'd rather hear crying and screaming than see limping. I may have to try his crate later this evening. Or, like I said before, put Cooper in the ex pen. He'll just sit there for about 20 minutes and then fall asleep, while Max lays on the outside. |

By signs of pain, I meant limping. If I had let her she probably would have raced around and resumed all normal activities while limping. It's so hard to keep these active little guys calm for any reason. I just kept reminding myself the sooner we got this healed up the sooner she could resume normal play. She wasn't happy with me, but I think she got used to it too. It just became the routine for those few weeks. As long as they won't wrestle in the xpen, then that would probably work if Cooper is what gets him all riled up anyways. I kept Lane's crate open next to Rory's, and she is so attached to Rory that she laid in her crate all day next to her. |

He's in the crate now, crying and crying. I put him in the crate in the windowsill for a while (couch up against it), but Cooper went off into a corner upset. It's Cooper's special spot. I gave him a bully stick with a little peanut butter, which kept him busy for 20 minutes. I'm hoping he'll just cry himself to sleep :( |
