Poor babies. :( Hopefully, he'll adjust soon. Don't forget to constantly tell him he's a good boy, so he doesn't think he's being punished for something. I know some people like to put their babies in strollers while on crate rest, so they can be rolled around with them at all times. Not sure if you have a stroller, but it may be another option to consider.

Just curious if the chicken broth you or anyone has found has no onions or onion powder in it. I'm supposed to be adding some to Rory's food in an attempt to get her to drink more water (per vet), and both of the cage-free organic low sodium chicken broth I've found has onions and/or onion powder in it. I can use sea salt as a last result, but the chicken broth seems preferred.

I read another thread this morning about chicken broth and the best suggestion was to make it yourself. I hadn't even thought about onions being in it until i read that thread.

Oh, and I don't have a stroller. Max is not necessarily on bed rest. The vet just said to limit his activity. I do let him walk around a little bit.

Rory was pretty much only out of her crate to use her pad and eat, and I let her continue to sleep in bed with us like normal. I'm sure Max appreciates his "free time" all the more.

no, it wasn't a thread about broth. It was just a post thrown in the middle of the thread. I'll see if I can find it, but not so sure. But it would make sense to boil a chicken in water and just freeze the broth, no?

I hope the crate is working out alright with Max....it is so hard to keep them contained especially when they are crying and crying. It's for the best though...although he cannot understand it. :animal-pa

Actually the crate is working out much better than the ex-pen. The ex-pen gives him too much room to play. He cries for about 20 minutes and goes to sleep in his crate. We only had one issue:rolleyes: I have a soft, thick blankie in there from him to lay on. Well, he was digging and digging and spinning and spinning and it formed a cast around his front leg and looked like he was stuck, immobile in the blanket. Always something. I haven't seen too much limping during walking in about 2 days. However, I did see him limp for a few minutes last night at 3am when he needed to go potty. I'm guessing maybe he was just stiff from laying.

I just had a similar experience with my Jack Russell. For the past year or two she has occasionally limped (front left paw in the air). I have had her in twice before to have it looked at. Nothing at all they could find wrong with the leg. In fact, it does not ppear tender in any place gently squeezed. So, when she was in for her dental this time, they did full xrays of her leg and spine. Leg is perfect, no arthritis, breaks, cracks, anything. But she does have a little narrowing between two of the neck vertebraes. So, the doc said it is probably a narrowed disk from an old jumping injury. This is similar to the narrowing of disks we all go through as we age, but since she is only 6 and no arthritis anywhere, he felt it was injury not age.

Her limping happens after she has been extra active -- mostly when my grandkids come to swim and she runs aorund the pool begging to be splashed. She loves the water. So, I guess I need to limit her activity a little, while not depriving her of a little fun. If she does limp, I have Rimadal (anti-inflammatory/pain relief). No surgery required. It is not really that bad. It was good to have it checked out and know she didn't have a cracked bone flaring up. It was also good to finally get the vet to see her limp and find an explanation. I think he thought I was crazy before because she was never limping by the time her appointment came around til this last time.

Thanks for the story. I'm really hoping it's nothing permanent, as Max is only 4 months old. I'm a little paranoid about my dogs' health and certainly don't mess around. I get whatever tests are needed and determine next steps from there. I'm relieved his xrays are normal and I think the limp in getting better. He's been strictly confined since Monday, so it's tough to say.

This may have been discussed earlier and I just missed it, but is it possible he has a torn ligament? This would account for the intermittent limping (especially if it's only a partial tear) and it's something an exray wouldn't detect. It usually takes several weeks of restricted activity to heal when surgery isn't called for.

I believe a torn ligament would show swelling? When the vet checked him early last week, he was hurt in 3 areas on his right side. His hip, back and right shoulder, which leads me to believe he fell or got hurt playing (which i somehow did not see). Today is day 3 that i have not seen him limping. He escaped a couple of times and ran through the house just fine:rolleyes:

We go to the vet tomorrow for his last puppy shots, so she will recheck those sore areas.

I'm not sure about the swelling - it probably would be for the first couple of days, but might go down after that. Alexander had a torn ligament many, many years ago and I can recall only a little of the details.

But with 3 days down, that's a great sign. Praying he's on the final healing stretch now. :)

Thanks, I hope so too. He's only 4 months and he's a huge bundle of energy. Its so difficult to keep him inactive, especially with Cooper walking up to the cage making ugly faces and taunting him. I'm very afraid to have Max run normal again but I'll get the vet's opinion.

I've read many threads about dog's having surgery due to LP or injuries and I give so much credit to anyone that has to keep their dog's confined for any length of time.

I'm glad to hear that little Max is doing better and is on Day 3 of not limping!!:thumbup::) That little Cooper.......I bet he walks up to the crate and gives that little smile of his to Max.:p Love that smile!!

I'll try to videotape what Cooper does to him. He's mastered his ugly face. It's like a modified smile:rolleyes:
