Panic, M& M Hi, I dropped an M&M on the floor and my baby ate it before I could get to it. Will he be ok??? I know chocs are bad for dogs but don't know how much does harm??? Thank you. |
I assume it was a milk chocolate M&M? Milk chocolate has much less Theobromine in it than dark chocolate. Because of that, and that it was such a small amount, I don't think you have anything to worry about. But keep an eye on her anyway and don't make a habit out of it! |
M&M Hi: Thank you for your kind reply and reassurance. He seems fine and I gave him some plain rice just after he ate it and all's well so far. I had hoped that one milk choc M&M would not be enough to hurt him (he is over 8 pounds so not a very small dog), but I didn't know. I will now feed his normal lunch w/rice as it will dilute the choc and see what happens. I will not post again unless he reacts badly. Thank you for helping me out. I certainly will not make this error again!!! |
One M&M does not pose a toxic threat. Maybe a tummy upset depending on sensitivity though... |
This is a neat little chart that lets you calculate how much chocolate is toxic by type and weight of dog: The Chocolate Chart Interactive - National Geographic Magazine It probably should be pinned somewhere. |
Wow, that IS a great chart. I agree that it should be stickied. |

M&M Thank you Ladymom & Ellie May for your help and interest. Looks like my baby will be OK. So far so good, even after normal lunch. Thank God!!! The chart is really good and very useful and should certainly be kept as a lifesaving guide for dog lovers. Ty again all for your input. |
