septicemia and meningitis Hi everyone, This is my first post, we only got Penelope 3 or 4 weeks ago. I woke up yesterday morning and seen that Penelope was lying very awkwardly, out of her bed and her neck was at a right angle to her body. I thought nothing of it and moved her. I took her outside a few mins later to relieve herself as we are still housebreaking her. When I put her down in her usual spot she collapsed, she is a bit of a sleepy head so I just called her to try wake her up. That's when I realised there was something wrong, I called her name but she only moved her eyes to look at me and the all her legs stretched out and her head moved to a very strange angle. I rushed her to the vet right away, turns out she has septicemia and that turned to meningitis. She was completely fine the night before, she was a bit off her food and drink on Saturday. The Vet told me yesterday that she was very close to death and she had a 100/1 shot she was going to make it through the night. Went to see her in the vets this morning and she's after fighting it off, we can get her back tomorrow. Just wanted to post this incase someone has to go through what my girlfriend and I and of course Penelope went through in the last two days. We had just about given up hope, maybe this will make things easier on someone having to go through. Anyway just that we were so lucky, I wanted to share it with people who care about their little ones as much as we care about Penelope. Thanks Owen |
So sorry your little girl is sick :(! It sounds like you got her in just in time, and that you're hopeful to have her back home soon. Please keep us posted! Little Penelope will be in my thoughts :). |
So sorry about your little one. How scary!! Thank you for the info and prayers for your baby:( |
Sending prayers for a complete recovery.... |
How scary! I am glad Penelope is recovering. |
Praying Penelope makes a full and quick recovery. |
Very scary for all of you. Sounds like you got your precious baby there just in time. Thanks for sharing. |
Your poor baby! I'm so glad you got her to the vet's in time and they are able to save her. Will she have a full recovery? My vet had a JRT with meningitis and he had a few neurological issues after that, mostly he couldn't walk or run as coordinated as before. Best wishes to your baby. |
What a dreadfully worrying time for you, but glad to hear your little one is doing well. Thinking of you x |
Wow. It sounds frightening. I hope your girl makes a full recovery. |
So glad that Penelope is on the road to recovery. What a scary time. ~Joanne~ |
Wow, how horrific! Thank goodness you had the presence of mind to get her to the vet. Keeping little Penelope in our thoughts and prayers. |
Thank you everybody, Just got little p back in the door, she's making strange with everything and quite nervous. I told her to sit and it seemed to help her remember where she was. She's falling asleep on my lap, but I think it will take her a few days to get back to herself. For anybody living in the south east of Ireland, I highly recommend Dr. Gubbins and the vet centre distillery rd. Wexford. Very compassionate, diagnosed what was wrong within a few seconds of seing her, phoned us twice a day with updates for her and not that it matters now that we have her back, but he only charged €150. Thanks again everyone, I'll try get some pics up of the pretty girl in the next few days. |
Here's a short video of Penelope I've put up on you tube. |
OMG! She's so cute! Keeping her in my prayers for a speedy and complete recovery! |
