Vomiting Hi everybody, here is an incident that I would like to share: during our vacations one day one of my Yorkies started vomiting. First day once, second day once, third day every time she ate or drink something. The third day my second Yorkie started vomiting too. I called my doctor and he told me that since we were on a trip for many weeks, probably something they ate or most probably the quality of water made them vomit. He recommended to give them Aludrox (aluminium hydroxide) twice a day and no food for the first day of the treatment. The first day vomiting stopped with no food or water. The second day I gave them just a little bit of boiled rise and very little water, the third day I gave them some more rise and some boiled chicken a a bit more water. From day four they started gradually to eat their dry food. I just wanted to share that with you because you can understand how stressful it was for me to see my babies sick in a foreign country with no help. I searched the internet for similar situations and I couldn't find anything but extreme cases. So sometimes vomiting can be simple to cure. Maria |
Thanks for sharing! I'm sure that was a very scary scenario. Glad your little ones pulled through. Is there a way to use bottled or purified water or carry a water filter while traveling? I've heard the water can affect people too. |
kjc thanks for your reply, I would like to say that during our trip we only drunk bottled water,but for one month it was very difficult to find the same brand every time, also I couldn't bring water with me for such a long time. I suppose that for a few day trip the safest thing to do is to bottle your home water or for longer periods bottled water of one brand. About water purifier, I'm not sure if the tap water that you will purify will be safe anyway. For me water is definitely number one thing to take care off, when on vacation Maria |
Maybe it would be a good idea then to talk to one's vet before departure and purchase the appropriate medications to have on hand. Seems like an easier solution than carting bottles of water around, or searching for water instead of being able to enjoy the trip. Or is there a way to treat the water before consuming it? |
I've been traveling all my life to different countries and I always had problems with the water myself. I haven't found a solution yet. I think that having some medicine for something like that is the best thing to do because water is not the only problem, food can be an issue too. Even the different weather can affect you. Off course this is the first time that I was troubled with it because it's the first time that I had my Yorkies with me. I won't travel without stomach medicine ever again. |
