Kali's sick Hello my 11 week old yorkie is sick she has had diareah for 5 days today is the first time I had seen her vomit. But keep in mind her energy has been good and she has continued to drink water and eat a little. So anyways I took a poop sample to the vet 2 days ago and they tested for Giardia and parasites. All test came back negative so I was left with no answers. Well today she vomited for the first time so I freaked and called the vet and told them they needed to see her as to I am concerned about parvo. I went in today and they examined her and took another stool sample free of charge but still all was negative. The vet did state as I asked many times that she did not have classic signs of parvo and felt it was an unnecassary test. So I am stuck now with no answers I am very irritated. I am treating with pancur for giardia and parasites just to try but I feel so lost. Please help any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |
Did your vet say anything else? Suggest bloodwork? Diarrhea in a puppy that young can be dangerous... even life threatening. I would get a second opinion with a different vet, asap. In the meantime, you can add about a teaspoon of plain canned pumpkin (not pie mix) to her food... it will help stop the diarrhea. (works on constipation too) How long has she been in your care? Has there been any diet changes recently? Sometimes Giardia is hard to see in a fecal because it may only shed and come out every 3-4 days. Good way to collect a sample is to get a sampling each day for three consecutive days, just store it in the refrigerator (do not freeze it) in a double baggie in between then have it tested. I would also call the breeder to see if any littermates have come down with anything and what would the breeder suggest you do. With the onset of her vomiting though... I don't think I would wait to have her seen by another vet. Puppies that young can go down very quickly. Maybe even take her to an ER tonight. Keeping you both in my prayers... |
