Pleasee help asap Hi I have no idea if this is the appropriate place to post this as this is my first Time on here. I have got a 15 week old boy and he is my first dog ever. He has had 2 of his 3 vaccinations, attends puppy school and the vet says that he is extremely healthy! Today when I got home he came to the door but when I picked him up and he liked whimpered for a few seconds then stopped but was shaking alot. I realized that he was trying to go to the toilet and would go in that position but nothing came out many times. I looked under his tail and it was all sticking together his feces (spelling sorry). We tried to take it of with wet ones and tissues with no luck so gave him a bath instead. We managed to get it off but after his bath we looked again and he had more starting to come out. He was fine all day today so I don't know what to do. Oh and he is passing awful gas. At the moment he is sleeping in my lap and has stopped shaking. But is there any advice on what this could be? Thankyou in advance Xxx |
Hi there and Welcome to YT! Congrats on your new puppy! First and foremost, it's always best to call your Vet whenever you think there is a problem with your puppy. And you should probably give him a call today. However, it sort of sounds as if he is constipated. And one of the problems that makes it appear that way is the gathering of feces on his little bum. It was good that you cleaned that away and is something you want to look at every day to make sure it stays clean so that he has a clear passage.;) As far as why he is constipated it could be a few things. Did you change his food, give him "people" food, or did he get into the trashbin? Either way, if it's simply constipation, pumpkin (100% pure with no spices) is a good food to use for both diarrhea and constipation. Again, give you Vet a quick call and see whe he/she says. Good luck! |
Thankyou he's so cute everyone loves him. Well we had problems with him and eating from when I got him which was at 9 weeks. So he eats a variety of dog and human food which is only ever chicken. It is only 3:50 am here and don't have emergency vet around so I was going to take him to the vet in the morning. So you don't think it is anything serious? Thankyou so much |

BJH had some good advice too. The bad gas may be from all the different foods he is eating. Try and find a food he likes and stick with it. Boiled chicken, if that's what you are giving him, won't give him gas but it's not enough "nutritionally" for him. You will want to solve the food issue as soon as possible so you are not preventing him from getting the proper nutrition he needs as a puppy. Hang in there, keep a good eye on your pup, and give your Vet a call when he opens in the morning. |
Yes will be keeping an eye on him all night and going to the vet as soon as We wake up. I would have taken him to energency except that it is just over 2 hours away from here :( so just thought that I could get a bit on insight on your thoughts as to what it could be. And thankyou to both of you again it is greatly appreciated. Xx |

Since your Emergency Vet is a 2 hour drive this is something you may want to take a look at and have your shelves stocked. If for anything, it will give you peace of mind that you are prepared if something should happen at 4:00 AM some day. Besides bandages and things like that, the list include Benedryl (for allergic reactions) Pepto Bismal, (tummy issues) Tums, (gas) Hydrogen Peroxide (to induce vomiting should he eat something poisonous), etc. What I do is check with my Vet the exact dosage for each of my dogs since they are three different weights. Then I write their name and their dosage amount on the box/bottle and keep a medicine syring with the product. But that's just me...I tend to be a bit over-organized sometimes! :D |
