HELP....I think Odie just got stung by a yellow jacket How do i know if he's gonna be ok? He was freakin out when he came back inside from pottying and thats when i saw the bee on the floor. I have never had a dog get stung and i dont know what to do. My husband googled it and the thing he read said Odie will be fine, but i'm still scared. Anyone ever experience this??? |
My Pippin hasn't experienced a bee bite, but our vet recommended 1/2 (one half) a Reactin every day for seasonal allergies (I know sounds crazy), so if you're concerned and can't get hold of your vet, I'm sure 1/2 a Reactin won't harm her, but will prevent an allergic reaction. Our Pip is 6 lbs and gets 1/2 a pill.... Hope that helps...... Janet |
I've had experience with dogs and bee stings, but not yellow jackets. Just watch for any swelling or trouble breathing. Do you have benadryl on hand? Look him over for any signs of a stinger and, if you find one, remove it with tweezers. An ice pack can help with localized swelling. |
if he itches to bad then you can make some cornstarch mush and put it on him that should stop the itching |
He is acting fine now. No scratching or even acting different or anything. His hair is fuller/thicker and a bit grown out so i'm thinking/hoping that the yellow jacket was just on his hair and the buzzing noise was why Odie was panicking. And no, we do not keep Benadryl in the house...I'm deathly allergic to it. But thank you all for your comments, I really appreciate it. |
