Yorkie with intestinal blockage - it's a MARBLE! 4 Attachment(s) So, you think you can trust your Yorkie to NOT chew on or swallow things that are laying around on the floor? If you have kids, listen up! Here is the story: On Monday August 9th I got a phone call from a lady in California whose Yorkie, Koda was very sick. He had been vomiting since Sunday and had thrown up lots of debris of things he had swallowed. Koda's human took him to the emergency vet who said it felt as though he still had some sort of foreign object in him and needed emergency surgery to have it removed. Koda's human did not have the $4,000 the emergency vet needed before doing the surgery. Koda's human called every vet she could find and prices were the same all over. So, she started calling rescue organizations and happened upon us! After attempting a few things (such as applying for Care Credit and attempting to get the object to pass naturally with lots of fiber), she decided it was time to get Koda here for some help. Koda was very lethargic, dehydrated, not eating or drinking, and vomiting. On the morning of Tuesday, August 10th, I picked up Koda and his human companion from the airport in Springfield, MO. We drove immediately to my vet's office and dropped Koda off. Tuesday evening the vet called with great news - Koda had surgery and is recovering! After x-rays, our vet saw an obvious foreign object in his intestines. Upon removing the object during surgery, she discovered that it was a marble. The marble was completely blocking Koda's intestines and was starting to cut off the circulation to his bowel. Thank God Koda was able to come to us for help! We feel so blessed that we were able to save his life! Koda is recovering and may be able to fly home to Santa Barbara on Friday. So does she get to go back to her owner?! That would be great. |
Oh yes, they paid to fly out here and I got everything set up with my vet and on Friday Koda will go home (we hope). The owner is going to give me what she can to help pay for the surgery, I am just paying for it and hoping for donations and such to help me (because I really can't afford it either, but I couldn't see NOT helping just because I was saving up for a new pair of skates). |
Wow Sarah! You've just made me cry tears of happiness for Koda. That is one lucky dog to have found you & it's beyond kind of you to do. |
Wow. How wonderful that you were able to step in and help. And how lucky that your vet was able to get to the cause of the problem before the damage was irreparable. |

That is so great that you could help them. That poor baby would not have made it without you!!! Kudos to you! |
Thank you guys for being so kind. :) Sometimes it feels like I put the world on my own shoulders. :) But, I am confident in this situation that it is because of me that Koda is still alive, and that makes all that I do totally worth it. :) |
