Eye drops causing dry heaves and vomiting? Has anybody had this experience? Woody got a little eye infection, took him to the vet and it seems since he got the eye drop he's vomiting a bit and doing the dry heaving. He's not acting sick, he's still eating, drinking, and going to the bathroom (both)...and playing. |

Have you looked up the eye drops online to see if there are side effects to them? I would suggest you call the vet and ask if it is at all possible that the eye drops did it. You don't want to just stop using the eye drops if he has an infection; but also don't want to keep using them if they do cause such systemic side effects. My guess is it is not from the drops, but better safe than sorry. Keep us posted! :) |
Yes, this can happen. You need to call your vet and let him/her know so they can change his med. Many years ago I had a cat who this happened to. My cat had Chiari as well and the vet thought maybe that was the reason for it but it did warn about it in the insert. Did the insert come with the med ? if so , read it and you will find it in there. |
I would call the vet to be sure it's not a side effect of the meds. But even the physical act of putting drops in the eyes can cause gagging- the lacrimal glands in the eyes empty in to the nose and the drainage from the drops can irritate the back of the throat, setting off a gag reflex. |
As the others have said, call your vet and let him know what is going on. He may want to switch drops. |
