getting desperate-please help!!! So, kylie has had this "cough" since she spent 2 days at puppy day care a month ago. She was put on antibiotics for 11 days and its been about 3 weeks since shes been off and her cough is worse! It sounds like she cannot get any air in...its like a snorting cough...kind of like a human would sound with asthma. I dont know what to do. The vet said to try baby zyrtec, so i did. NOTHING. So she is back on antibiotics for 3 weeks but i want answers. Does anyone have similar situations? Shes so tiny and young and I feel bad. She looks at me when she is having a coughing spell like "mom help me please" . Please any advice or insight is VERY appreciated!!! Melanie and Kylie |

sounds like she has kennel cough, you need to take her back to the vet and ask him about kennel cough |

Also are they sure it's not CT ? |
I just got my puppy last week and he developed kennel cough. He is on antibiotics and I have to bring him back in 2 weeks to be checked. They say that sometimes kennel cough can last 21 days but it shouldn't get worse after that. I would have the puppy rechecked and research the puppy day care to make sure they are not allowing dogs with kennel cough there. Some places will do anything as long as they get money. |
Sounds like kennel cough. That in itself is most likely a virus but you put the pup on antibiotics to prevent secondary infection. It sometimes takes a long time for the coughing to end. Some people use nebulizers with medication to help relieve the symptoms. |
thank you for all of your replies!!! Any advice is VERY appreciated!! She went back to the vet yesterday for chest xrays. Nothing was found! :) So she is on clavamox for 4 weeks. She started it up again monday and I already see a decrease in the coughing! BUT now im worried because i want to get her spayed before her first heat...and she cant get spayed until the cough is gone and she is off the meds! How old were your girls when they went into heat? |
