when is it safe to stop Nutrical? Ceeby is still a VERY picky eater. he is eating a few kibbles of the new Chicken Soup puppy food. Maybe fiive at a time if I am lucky. the only thing he really loves is the gerber toddler meat sticks. I give him two in the morning and two at night. the rest of the time I try to encourage him to eat his puppy food. Here's the question: i give him a little Nutrical first thing in the morning because he does not eat at night and this worries me to death. Then about an hour before bedtime I give it to him again to hold him over thru the night. he is three months and one week old now. Last week he weighed 1.7 lbs. Does he still need the Nitrical as often? When will I ever be able to stop the daily doses of it? I hope this is not going to be a lifetime thing. Unless, of course he has a hypoglycemic episode. Thanks |
You might try mashing up his meat sticks and mix some dry food with it. Little by little you can eliminate the meat sticks, and give them as a treat instead. Nutrical should be continued until your baby eats normal portion meals for his size everyday. Maggie was on Nutrical until she was 6 months old. When she was 8 months old, we had her spayed. She didn't want anything at all to eat the day after surgery, so it was a good thing I had some Nutrical on hand. It never hurts to have it on hand, just in case. You don't want to give them too much of it, because it spoils their appetite. I hope this helped some. |
I worry all the time that Dollar is not gettig enough food, i feel like I am constantly trying to get him to eat, but I make sure that i give him that Nutri- Stat 3 times a day, just a finger tip full and let him lick it off my finger! :animal36 |
It is probably safe to say that it will not be a lifetime thing. Trixie never had any problems eating...she was always trying to eat more than her now-65-pound-heavier pal, so we didn't give it to her more than a week after we got her. My sister and father gave Nutrical to Cody and Abby until they were about 3-4 mo old. My outlook: it's better to be safe than sorry and it is not going to hurt. |
when safe You said,"Nutrical should be continued until your baby eats normal portion ". I guess then I need to figure out what a normal portion is. I have seen people post on here that their puppy the same age eats a half can of food at a time. I see people say feed one-fourth cup three times a day. so, I don't know what the correct portion is. Just now, he ate about two tablespoons of his Chicken Soup for puppy's after I put a little warm water in it and fed him from my hand. Thanks for your reply |

Tatum is now almost two years old and almost 5 lbs. so I can't speak much on the puppy issue but I know I like to take the Nutrical with me when we go to the ballpark in the summer and places like that. If I know she's going to be playing real hard and/or it's hot outside, I keep it handy. We call it her "go-go juice"! If she's had a really long day and played really hard outside with our Aust. Shepherd with not much rest, I'll give her some. We've never had any hypoglycemic episodes even when she was exactly 1 lb. when we brought her home at 9 weeks. The breeder sent us home with a new tube of Nutrical and told us all about it. Hope that helps as far as what to expect down the road. |

I would suggest that you mash up the baby food-1 stick at time..Add about a teaspoon of kibble that has been crushed some. Then mix the chicken and kibble mixture and add some NutriStat or Cal. Put his food on a small plate and make little mounds of the food. That way, you can monitor exactly what he is eating and how much,, Good luck with feeding Mr. Fussy Eater..LOL |
weaning nutrical someone told me when bitzie was 2# AND OVER I COULD STOP? |
when maxi had issues with eating, my vet gave me a big syringe and some mushy food so i can force feed her. these little guys can't go very long without eating. another thing that i did was cook ground beef up with some rice and maxi LOVED it! :D i did this for about a week and ever since then she never had a problem. |
i have tried the ground beef. You name it, I've tried it. except for the nutrical, dry kibble and meat sticks mashed together. i always get so excited when he eats well, Then he only does it for one meal. next meal, he turns his nose up. |
