vomited bile and blood This morning my little girl vomited blood up. If she doesn't eat in the morning she will vomit bile and she refused to eat this morning so she did. The blood was very unexpected she acted fine before and after. She was happy to wake me up this morning when the alarm went off and wanted to play. We went outside and she went potty her poop looked normal came back in and she wanted nothing else to do but play. I had to gate her in my room so she would eat. She did finally eat right before we left for work and she was fine all day today. She played with the other two dogs at work and went potty normal. Anybody have any clues as to the blood? She has a vet appointment tomorrow but she has me worried. |
Morning bile I understand on the empty stomach, but not sure about the blood. Glad you have a vet appointment and hope you get to the bottom of it! |
My little guy, Vinnie, has vomited bile for morning in the years. The trick to preventing it is giving him a "snack" right before we go to bed. If I do that, and get him fed the next morning at a reasonably early time, there is no vomiting of bile. If he doesn't get a snack before bed, he will frequently start vomiting in the middle of the night and into the next morning, and then refuse breakfast. I have seen him occasionally vomit a bit of blood in the bile, but only rarely (maybe a few times a year). The vet attributed it to his stomach being irritated. When he does this, he also sometimes ends up with diarrhea and blood in that. The general rule is that if the blood is small in quantity and bright red, you don't have too much to worry about (assuming it is transient). If it is dark or has the appearance of coffee grounds, you should get to the emergency vet immediately. |

Wow, that sounds kinda scary. If they vomit you are actually supposed to withhold food and just hydrate. You can get unflavored Pedialyte to help replace electrolytes when the pup is vomitting. I hope she will be OK and let us know what the vet says. Maybe she got into something in the yard? Good Luck and let us know what happens with your baby. |

Well she is fine. Her appointment was made for her itchiness before she vomited but the vet said she has a allergy and that's what upset and irritated her stomach which what the vet says caused the blood. The two other dogs we brought to the vet too, my little sister's Lucy and my Granny's Pearl, both had tapeworms and all were tested and given droncit to take. Sakura was given temaril p for her itching and while nothing was found in her fecal test they gave her droncit just in case. The vet also said the reason she won't eat because of the upset stomach so I am suppose to give her pepcid when she eats. Now she is playing with Lucy and acting crazy running around the house. It's like nothing happened. :p Thanks for all the help! |
