Wow I could be correct---toxins--I knew Graffity never produced any problems--he is excellent male with excellent bloodlines--Lake Buena Vista Kennels is a wonder kennel---I'd buy another Yorkie any day from Glaucia---she is a honest wonderful person--I bought 2 males from her and I loved them both---still showing one of them Kamikaze--he has 4 major wins 12 points---not to shabby--hope to finish him this fall. I just couldn't see Graffity producing a problem---hopefully as soon as the sentinel is out of his system he will be fine---I'd be careful what I gave him from now own(not meaning to blame you in any way )---I use an Ivomec mixture for heart worm protection---it's cheaper and works great---but of course the Ivomec "could" be a problem for him as well !!

Have you (or anyone) ever heard of any Yorkies coming up with the MDR1 Gene Mutation (most ivermectin sensitive Collies have this)? Have any Yorkie people checked for this mutation that you or anyone know of? :D

I don't know about studies done on Yorkies, only Collies. I do know that Ivermectin (Heartguard) is not recommended for dogs who have seizures as studies have shown it can lower the seizure threshold. Interceptor is the recommended brand for epileptic dogs. The active ingredient in Interceptor is milbemycin oxime, the same as in Sentinel, though.

Honest and wonderful would not have said to euthanize the puppy. Sorry but I have a very good relationship with Teddy's YTCA breeder and I can tell you that my conversations with her regarding Teddy's seizures, his head bobbling, and his urinary problems have never had the word "euthanize" in them. Nor has she ever been defensive and tried to blame me or Teddy for anything.

And the constant implications on this thread to make it seem like Karen did something to cause this is OUTRAGEOUS. There is alot of upsetment when there are comments to blame the breeder, but wow does it change when blaming the victim.

I'm glad Max is doing ok. If this was my dog, picking him up from the vet would not end the matter with the breeder.

WHAT ----I did NOT in any way blame anyone for causing this problem---who knew ---or who could possibly predict that a product of any kind could cause any such problem ! It's called an ACCIDENT ! No one in their right mind would give a puppy something on purpose to cause problems---NOR would a breeder send out a puppy just for laughs to get the world of YORKIES all stirred up and on their backs calling them all sorts of horrible things----PEOPLE it wasn't on purpose--its an accident. And let me clear something up--Lake Buena Vista kennel is NOT the breeder of this puppy--she is the breeder of the sire of this puppy--she sold him to me and after I saved a few females from him I passed him on ! Lake Buena Vista (Glaucia) was a honest, caring breeder and I trust her very much---I bought 2 males from her and was VERY pleased with both of them. So lets back off and just be pleased the puppy doesn't have any bad reports so far--and hopefully if it's the sentinel it will get out of the system soon and he will be ok ! Lets be happy !

I'm so glad that Max is in your hands and you have taken steps to insure his health.

What bothers me is how his sire has been passed from "breeder to breeder" use him and they're done with him......so sad.

I've learned more than i ever wanted about breeding. I will say though, that I think the sire is in very good hands right now.

I understand. I just find it sad that a dog is passed from place to place. It's something I would never think of doing. My boys have provided me with many hours of companionship, traveled with me to shows while they are being championed, given me more champions......I could never rehome them, just because I'm done with them. They will live out their days with me as loving pets.

I can't agree with you more. I didn't even know this happened in the "breeding world". But i can't really form an opinion with this particular dog because I personally don't know the dog's history.
