I am so glad Betty Boop had a good night! I am still amazed that she would eat metal. |

I talked to the Boopster's regular vet this morning. He wants me to come in at 4:30 and get an x-ray, then again on Monday. If the metal hasn't left the stomach, he wants to do surgery on Tuesday or Wednesday. Boop's vet used to raise Yorkies and still has one that he sleeps with, so I feel that he knows the breed and will do what is best for her. |
OMG! Your poor baby! Hope she passes everything okay! Quote:

I'm honestly surprised the vet wouldn't want to do surgery today. I would think he would be worried about it perforating the intestine while waiting for it to pass on it's own. |
Update: The regular vet just x-rayed Betty Boop. The piece I was led to believe was one intact piece is NOT. It's a group of small pieces on top of each other. The x-ray today showed that some of it has moved out of her stomach and there is no trace of anything in her intestines. The vet and a colleague both agreed that we should give it time to work its way out, that it would be very difficult to go in and remove such very very small pieces and be able to get them all. Since she is acting normal and not in pain, and there is no swelling, they want to do another x-ray on Monday. The stuff she ate is very crumbly and that is why they believe it will pass over the weekend. I was wondering the same thing about why they didn't want to do surgery immediately. But, since there are small pieces, I feel they, too, will pass. At the sign of any discomfort or any change in her, I will immediately take her to the ER. He gave her medication: Antibiotic to help prevent a small chance of tetanus; Reglan; Sucralfate and W/D. I'll let everyone know the outcome next week. Thanks everybody for being there for us. |
I'm relieved to hear that they are small pieces. I am praying that she will be back to normal soon. Hugs. |
Just seeing this, dear lord...I pray Betty Boop will be fine and pass all this weekend. Love that little baby girl! Sending many prayers to you both! |

How's Betty Boop doing today? |
I hope all the pieces pass through her soon! Keep us updated on Betty Boop :) |
I'm just seeing this and you've done everything right by getting her in so quickly - I'd be scared also I hope like everyone else she'll pass all this with no repercussions..... Did they tell you if the rust/metal will be toxic to her system or is it ok to do the 'wait and see' thing ? In SOME cases they'll want a dog to vomit but in your case..... that is a big No No due to the fact that it's sharp - so praying it gets broken down before she passes it all..... |
Hope Betty Boop is ok. I am praying for you and her that everything goes well. |
