11 week old with hypoglycemia My male Yorkie Twinkle is eleven weeks old. We just gt him from a breeder on monday. He was fine the first two days but the third day we took him to a vet and he stopped eating. That afternoon he fainted and we found out he has Hypoglycemic. He was put on drips and everything. :aimeeyork He spent the next day(today) at the vets and he has taken many blood tests. Are there any techniques to make him eat? Are you feeding him exactly what the breeder was? A new home is a huge adjustment, so it's normal for them to go off food for a while. With a little one, it's best to keep Nutrical on hand (you can find that at pet stores) and if you see him getting lethargic, or his gums loose color, you just dab a bit of Nutracal on the roof of his mouth and that'll perk him back up. |
Have Nutry Cal on hand and watch him closelly ... make sure he takes frequent naps during the day and have food available, he will eat if undisturbed and the food is there. Nutry Cal has sugar and vitamins, will make his appetite come about . While in the vets, make sure they test him for coccidia and Giardia... stress opportunistic parasites .;) XOXO |

did your breeder not explain to you about hypoglycemia? I always put white karo syrup in the water until I know they are eating regularly. I hope he is getting better. |
Nutrical is awesome..it always perks up Muffin when she's a little down. I always keep some in the house |
Is there a possibiliy hes just home sick cuz hes showing all the symptoms of a home sick puppy |
He has coccidia we are treating him for that |

You will also have to be scrupulous in cleaning his kennel areas. He can easily get reinfected with the coccidia parasite if you don't. A good steam mop is very helpful. |
The exact same thing happened to our little one Skip. He happen to have an episode of hypoglycemia. Because of his small size (1lb @ 8weeks), we should have been feeding him every 2hrs. This was recomemded by the vet. What dumb parents we were. We only fed him like 3x a day for the fist two days we had him, then on the 3rd day he collapsed :(. He is now shy of 12 weeks and we most definitely keep NutriCal on hand, and are now feeding him every 3hrs. We make sure he eats well, plays for no more than 20min at a time, and sleeps a lot. Make sure he sleeps. good luck with your little one. I think our little ones are not to far in age. |
