Yorkie jaw issues? Hi all my name is Ali and I have a beautiful 3 1/2 year old male yorkie named Dolce. Today I noticed that after yawning he kept moving his mouth. It kind of looked like he was chewing a piece of dog food but there was nothing in his mouth. He has been doing this all day and I am not sure if I should worry. Have any of you heard about or experience this? When he is doing this movement is causes his face to shake and sort of vibrate. He is able to close his mouth and is not doing this constantly but I am worried. Anything will help. Thank you! Ali |
Hi and Welcome to YT! Sometimes dogs can get food stuck on their back teeth and that may cause the behavior you're seeing. Or a loose tooth ... If you can look in his mouth, with a tiny flashlight, you may be able to determine the problem. If not, you may want to have your vet check him out, especially if he's painful in any way. |
I agree with kjc about the food being stuck between the teeth or a loose tooth. Piccolo also does this when a clump of hair works its way into her mouth and it is still attached on the outside. Weird, but I have learned to watch the signs for this now. Hope you get things figured out with your little one. |
Thanks all. I looked at his mouth and teeth..didn't see anything unusual. Last night he could not chew his adult bite dog food. He tried to eat but couldn't crack the peice of food. I cut it smaller and he ate it. I think I may have to take him to the vet today..any thoughts?? Thanks for your time |
Also could be something under the gumline or tooth, like an abcess or something that causes him discomfort. You can also try soaking his kibble in water to soften it. As this is affecting his eating, I would definitely get him seen by your vet. Hope all goes well and he feels better soon... |
