by baby has a bad rash 1 Attachment(s) My little guy has this bad rash all around his tail nub. I have a vet's appointment at 4:30 pm today, but does anyone know what this could be? It is really bothering him, seems to be itchy & painful & he is trying to chew at it constantly. He started this chewing at it last night & I noticed the rash this morning while brushing him. Is there anything I can do to help him until I can get him to the vet today? Thanks for any help |
Poor baby. Sorry I don't have any suggestions as to what that could be, but it must really be irritating him. :( Hopefully the vet can figure out what is causing it and give him some relief today! |
Thanks for your support. It is really driving him nuts. He finally fell asleep & I am afraid to get up from my chair or he will be up again also. this is the only spot, nothing on the rest of his body at all. It is so weird. I wish I knew what was safe to put on it to help him, but am afraid he might lick it |
I would guess an allergy or a flea irritation. Or possibly he got some poo stuck on his rear? I have had one or two get irritated back there if they got a little stuck in their tail hair or if they got a little loose stool. I put AD ointment (diaper rash) on them and you can either use a e-collar or I have put a baby diaper (usually size 1) on them for a few hours while it dries, so they can't get to it. |

but the allergy sounds interesting because it started last night after he was sitting on the lawn, which had just been mowed, he was also sneezing like crazy! But wouldn't it also be on his legs or tummy if a grass allergy. Someone suggested insect or ant bites which could also be a possibility. |
You can rub a "dab" of "preparation H" cooling gel on the red area. It cools and numbs and makes some inflation go down fast. But if you are taking to vet he will let you know what it is for good. XOXO |
back from the vets. this is not a rash but from him biting at himself due to full & painful anal glands. Vet emptied his glands & gave antibacterial soap to wash affected area. He will need a checkup in 2 weeks & may need more fiber in his diet. |
Glad you were able to get him checked out and diagnosed. My male just had an anal abscess from the glands getting too full. I didn't know and he didn't act any different. Glad you caught it early. |
