my millie - should i worry or not? hey guys :aimeeyork a few months ago i took my millie back to the states with me for a mini vacation and my sister pit-lab mix and her became fast friends. in then end she had a bit of a pulled muscle on her rear left leg. a vet in california gave me some medicine and she finished it all when we got back to germany. ever since then, she hasn't complained a whole lot about her leg, but every now and then she will hold it up when shes stands still. so yesterday she took a HUGE poo (for her) and since then shes actually been having a little bit of diarrhea - 4 or 5 times since yesterday at noon. also last night i was laying with her on the couch and i was rubbing on her rear left leg and she yelped a little. i was feeling her rear legs this morning and her right leg definitely has more muscle mass than her rear left. |
I'd want to get it checked out by a vet. That's a long time for a dog to be having trouble with its leg. If it were a minor pull, you'd think the symptoms would have gone away by now. The risk of not doing anything is the dog will start favoring the other leg and damage that one too. Good luck. |
Hi and Welcome to YT! I agree, she should be evaluated by a vet. That you noticed increased muscle mass in her right leg could indicate that she's been favoring her left leg maybe longer than when you first noticed it. Also, lifting a hind leg while standing is not a normal behavior, and can also be indicative of a problem. Wishing you the best, |
When I was still in the states, I took her to a local vet and they did an xray and everything. Nothing appeared to be wrong but they gave me meeds for her anyway. Then when I got back to Germany, I continued with the medicine and it had seemed to get better. I have to wait till pay day in 2 weeks to take her to the vet. But thank you for the replies |

Better be safe than sorry ... so go to vet, but get the Xray copy from the US vet ! Blessings . XOXO |
I gave the x-rays to the vet when I came back with her in march. So ey already have them on file. I called the military vet today and got her an appointment for next Tuesday. The lady I talked to just told me to keep her on rice and chicken for a couple days to see if it changes anything. Here's another question though, how do I give the chicken and rice to her? Do I still need to ween her off her dry food? Or can I just give it to her straight? |
The chicken and rice you can just give it right away, the rice will 'hold" her and chicken provides protein, make sure you cook homemade and no fat or oils, use plain chicken breast - no fat . Get the Xrays with if you go to a different vet , i did not understand if you will have the same vet or not. Blessings. XOXO |
Sorry, I totally forgot about the diarrhea in my first post. A little plain canned pumpkin (not the pie mix) may help to stop the diarrhea. I agree, stress, pain, medicine can all be responsible for it. Also, I would try to limit any running or jumping till she can get re-evaluated by the vet. |
UPDATE! well after after 10 days-7 of chicken and rice 2x a day and 3 to ween her off- my millie's diarrhea is all gone =] shes eating her dry food again. i haven't been able to take her to the vet for her leg yet, but shes not showing it any favor at all. the last few days shes been pretty active too, so im not too worried. |
